Rates for both loans and discounts showed no Appreciable change to-day. Call money and abort fixtures were again easily borrowed at per cent, and three months' Bank bills were nsually taken by brokers at 9-16 per cent. For four months' drafts the rate was per and for six months' paper lo-16 to 1 per cent. Indian Sterling issues were likewise in demand, the Three-and-a-Half per Cents, rising to 110-J ex and the Three per Cents.

The heavy descriptions were practically unaltered. Brighton A was up at 160f-. Lancashire and Yorkshire rose 2, to 110.

United States Railroad Securities advanced fractionally at the opening, and remained hard until New York prices came to hand, when a general, decline took place. The last quotations were about the worst, but the reaction for the day was not serious. Atchison Shares met with exceptional support, and closed higher, at 8, and the A Bonds of the Company improved to 26. Illinois were up and Central Pacific Louisv'illo fell to 57- Union Pacific to 141 Norfolk and Western to 26 New York Central to 104J and Missouri and Texas to jUSf. Reading Shares were down but the First Income Bonds improved to the same extent.

Pennsylvania Shares were steady. Atlantic First3 and Wabash Debentures improved Canadian Pacific Shares were unaltered at but Grand Trunk Stocks improved to the traffic returns being no worse than had been expected. Mexican Railway Ordinary and First Preference Stocks declined and 1, last week's earnings of the line not exceeding 10,300. AUsopp's Ordinarv rem dned at 105-j, but the Preference Stock declined to 131. About twenty South American Railway descriptions left off 1 to 2 better, and nearly a dozen Trust Companies' issues rose 1 to 4.

Indian and Colonial Rail-way Bonds were also stronger in some cases. Antofagasta Railway Stock closed 2 higher, at 105. Bank of New South Wales Shares improved 1, to 39. Foreign Government Securities were less dealt in to-day, but on the whole the tendency was good, the Pat is Bourse firm. Russian of 1899 improved to 102; and Portuguese to 25.

There was also a strong inquiry for Turkish Bonds, which rose 1 J. to 41 f. The A Bonds were up at 64 J- at 28 and 1-16, at 25 13-16. Mexican of 1888 rose 1, to 64 Colombian 2, to 19 and Costa Rica to 47. Chilian issues further advanced to on investment buying, the 1886 Bonds closing at 92, and the 1892 Five per Cents, at 99..

Argentine issues showed comparatively little change, although the gold premium was down another four points. The 1886 and Funding Loans declined to 67 and 72J: but Cedidas improved to 29. Buenos Ayres Waterworks Bonds remained at 69. We understand that negotiations were concluded late this afternoon for the sale of a large block of this Stock by the Bank of England to a financial syndicate, at prices ranging from 59 to 60. Uruguay Bonds gave way to 46.

Spanish closed a shade easier, at 681. Realisations had some influence in the Mining Market, and the tone was rather dull. Geldenhuis and Jumpers fell to 5 9-16 and 4. Langlaagte declined 1-16, to 4 7-16; and Durban Roodepoort 1-16, to 6. New Primrose and Langlaagte Royal, however, rose to 4 and 3 3-16.

Hyderabad Deccan fell back to 7. De Beers and Rio Tinto were each 1-16 weaker, at 16 11-16 and 14 15-16. West Australian Gold improved 5-16 further, to 2J. Chartereds rose to 37s. No bullion operations were reported at the Bank.

The steamer Oceana, due here Sept. 7, brings 245,4201 in gold from India, China, and Australia; and the Chusan, due on Sept. 11, brings 9200 in gold bars from Calcutta. Bar silver was purchased for China, and the price remained at 30 3-16(1. per ounce.

Mexican dollars were again dealt in at 30d. per ounce. Indian transfers came at Is. 1 which is a rise of l-32d. for Calcutta.

Chinese cables were unaltered, at 2s. 2d. for Hong-Kong, and 2s. llfd. for Shanghai.

Rupee paper was sold, on the conversion, and the price declined to 58 585. On 'Change, all movements were further against this country, mainly owing to the continued ease in the rates of discount here. Italian currency, however, slightly depreciated in value. Paris cheques were dealt in at 25.17& to 25.18J, and German at 20.37 to 20.39. The Bank of Eugland will receive on the 14th inst.
