Sept. 16 Lena Terrell Jackson, born of slave parents in Sumner County in the last year of the Civil War, who lived to master the literature of ancient civilization, died a few weeks ago, leaving to carry on, the heritage of her teaching a long list of prominent men and women who were her pupils. She devoted her entire life to her race, by teaching and promot ing education. She was a pupil in the first public schools organized in Nashville, and later attended Fiak.
