1.1 I City Canvait. In order to present in ene pie the result of the whole election in this city, we republUh this evening the canvass of the rotes for Members of Assembly in this city by which it appears that six of the federal and five of the democratic ticket are elected. Although in this partial Vic there is much ground for congratulating the friends of sound republican principles when it is considered that the federal electors actually held the electue: in their own hands, and have notwithstanding, divi iei it with their there is per i tps quite as much to censure as to be pleas ed with. When we lank at the result before us, and sec that if an equal vpport had been given to all the federal candidates, that they would all have succeeded, and that several of them wanted but a few votes to be elected, it is hoped that it will teach our friends a lesson on the necessity of united action, that aliho' unavailing as to the past, may have a saluta Ty effect as to. the future.

We wish too that all those who would have voted for the federal ticket, if they had voted at all, and neglect ed to do so frmn the idle notion that their votes were unnecessary, or would make no difference, or from any other cause equally unjastifi able, would look the consequence which has just been produced by such conduct. We hive no intention of adding to the justre proaches which they ought to feel on the occasion We hope however that. bearing in mind what has just happened, iey will hereafter by doing hir duty make the only a mends in their power for their past neglect. The shocking outrages committed in different parts of our city last Friday night, by a licentious mob, combed of men assuming the name of ought to convince every reflecting mind of the wide difference between a name and the reality that however easy it is for a party to call itself republican, it is rot so easy at all times to conceal the hypoc risy of the claim, and to prevent a disclosure of the real truth, that they are not what they profess to be. Democracy and republicanism are not in our apprehension convertible terms the tendency of the former is to anarchy and misrule, whilst that of the latter is to pro duct order, ta cultivate rational liberty, protect the rights of the citizen, impart to the government stability, honor and virtue.

This is the republic anisin of federalists. Would to heaven it were reestablished in our country, and that i might be perpetual QUEENS COUNTY RETURNS. For 1310. Fr Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Senator. FEDERAL J.
