Police said Hill has eluded troopers and failed to submit himself to police since early Saturday morning in Craftsbury. Police said they had re- sponded to a 911 hang-up call and arrived at a Craftsbury home, where a victim reported being as- saulted by Hill. Police are also charging Hill for taking the phone away from his victim, whom he knew. to reach Hill were unsuc- cessful Sunday. A judge issued a felony warrant for arrest.

State police said anyone with information about whereabouts should contact them and not ap- proach him. Vermont Fish and Wildlife seeks input for 2018 moose hunt MONTPELIER The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is seek- ing public input on plans to issue fewer permits in the 2018 moose hunt. The department will be holding three hearings this week where will outline the results of the 2017 moose and deer hunting seasons. The meetings March 19, 21, and 22 will include a re- view of the proposed 2018 moose hunting season. Nominees sought for 2018 Vermont Dairy Farm of the Year One dairy farm in Ver- mont will receive top hon- ors based on factors like conservation practices and milk quality.

The University of Ver- mont Extension and the Vermont Dairy Industry Association are looking for nominations for this Vermont Dairy Farm of the Year. Each year since 1961 the award honors one outstanding dairy farm for overall ex- cellence. The deadline for nomi- nations from the public is April 27. A judging committee made up of past winners reviews the nominees based on their farm man- agement, innovative prac- tices, crops, pasture qual- ity and promotion of the dairy industry. State Fish and Wildlife says deer harvest up 13 percent MONTPELIER The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife said deer hunters took 13 percent more deer during last hunting seasons than the average of the previous three years.

Experts attribute the increase to mild weather the preceding two win- ters, which allowed more deer to survive. The state also issued more muzzle- loader antlerless deer per- mits. A report released Mon- day showed that hunters took a total of 15,984 deer during archery, youth, November and December muzzle- loader deer seasons. Deer Project Leader Nick Fortin said harvest numbers increased during the archery, youth and muzzleloader seasons, and the total harvest was the third highest since 2002. Towns receive grants to preserve historic sites PAWLET Two Rut- land County towns have received historic preser- vation grants from Ver- community devel- opment agency.

The Rutland Herald re- ported the state Division for Historic Preservation recently awarded Pawlet an $8,500 grant and Sud- bury a $4,020 grant. Pawlet will use its grant to preserve the auditori- um ceiling in its town hall. The town hall was con- structed in 1881 and has served as a general store, school, post and li- brary. Sudbury will use the state funds to repair a 19th English-style barn at the Miller Hill Farm. The barn was used to produce char- coal before it housed cat- tle.

Corkins said the state has awarded about $200,000 this year to towns and organizations for historic preservation projects. School receives $20 million gift to upgrade campus MANCHESTER A school has received a $20 million donation to help upgrade its campus. The Bennington Ban- ner reported Burr and Bur- ton Academy administra- tors announced Thursday the independent Man- chester school had re- ceived the gift from Barry and Wendy Rowland. It is one of the largest secondary school dona- tions in state history. The funds will be used to com- plete The Rowland Project which includes a new classroom building and a green space.

Barry Rowland said in a statement the gift was an investment in the stu- dents and the Manchester community. Headmaster Mark Tashjian said the ad- vancements will new ways of thinking in Barry Rowland previ- ously served on the board of trustees. He and his wife donated $10 million to the academy in 2007. Maple Open House Weekend is March 24-25 MONTPELIER The public will get a chance to visit sugarhouses around Vermont this coming weekend to see maple syr- up-making in action and to sample some of the sweet in celebration of the signature crop. Maple Open House Weekend takes place March 24-25.

Maple producers will open their sugarhouses for visitors to see sap boil- ing or to enjoy the tradi- tional sugar-on-snow. Some of the other activ- ities at various sites are pancake break- fasts and horse-drawn sleigh rides as well as ma- ple products to taste such as maple doughnuts and maple cotton candy. A map and list of par- ticipating sugarhouses can be found online on the Vermont Maple Sugar Makers Association web- site at ple.org/mohw. State Police seek tips in 2004 disappearance of teen MONTGOMERY Ver- mont State Police investi- gators are reminding the public about the 14th an- niversary of the disap- pearance of a 17-year-old teenager last seen when she left work in Montgo- mery. Brianna Maitland, who was 17 when she disap- peared, had left work at the Black Lantern Inn on March 19, 2004.

Her car was discovered the next day at an abandoned farmhouse, not far from the inn. Police and the Maitland family are requesting that anyone with any informa- tion, no matter how small, come forward. Police have said no evidence that Maitland left the area willingly and they believe she was a vic- tim of foul play. Investiga- tors said they are continu- ing to monitor develop- ments in the case. A $5,000 reward is be- ing to help solve disappearance.
