(INS) If for any reason, a considerable part of the root system of a tree has to be cut, it may be wise to thin out the top and to then feed the tree to supply more nourishment and to encourage vigorous new root growth. So says Don Fowler, a Davey tree export, who points out that the smaller number of roots cannot support the whole top. It is tiny island of Lundy, 30 miles off the southwest coast of Britain and the asking price for the entire Island plus the rights and privileges of monarch Is. 1125,000 or the best offer.

Lundy is temporarily kmgleaaas a result of the death recently of London financier Coles Barman, who had: toe mWortune of expiring without leaving an heir to ascend his "throne." The-island Is one of those tradition-drenched old-world oddities which for eight centuries has enjoyed the status of a virtually independent enclave. Since 1135 when King'Stephen granted it a royal charter, Lundy's lords have reserved to themselves the rights of sovereignty over their pocket domain. To this day whoever owns the island pays no income tax, and has tlie right to mint his own coins, print postage stamps and import whatever wishes tree of custom duties. He also can control fishing In his coastal waters, deny anyone he chooses permission to land and evict all who incur his displeasure. He has 15 residents who.

take their livelihood from Lundy's rocky noil. Recent lords of Lundy have avoided putting their precise powers to the test, with the British government. Harman, who, when he purchased the island, inherited with it a horde of ancient documents, claimed Lundy was completely independent of Britain and that he owed allegiance to no one except Queen Elizabeth. 8TATVB The statue of Christ the Redeent- overlooking Rio de Janeiro from Corcovado Mountain, of reinforced concrete, stands 130 feet high, "'measures 92 feet from the tip of outstretched arm to the other, has feet in length and weighing tight tons.
