Liudsay feels that he is lucky to be alive, aud wo regret that wo have not tho time and space to do justice to his tale of woe, which would make lirst-clas? material for a dime novel or furnish tho plot for a blood aud thunder play. Belt. THE CATTLEMEN OF PIMA. Tlioy Permanently Orgunlzo for Protection Against PupnKoes. About thirty Pima county cattlemen met yesterday iu the district courtroom aud perfected a permanent orgauiza-tiou for protection against the Papa-goes, whoso inroads upon their herds, carried on for a long time, have utjasl passed the poiut of endurance.

The matter was very fully discussed by those present, aud the means to be adopted for future security were dually agreed upon. A system of patrol will be emplojed. Six men will be engaged by the cattlemen and paid bj contributions levied upou stockowuers, each owner being assessed in proportion to tho size of his held. These patrols will bo on the range constantly, aud when they discover a cit-tle thief will bring him in and attempt to secure his punishment. It is hoped that this method may prove successful iu causing a cessatiou of these raids.

The organization is composed of tho following officers: President, C. W. Wright; secretary, W. J. Ross; treasurer, Gcorgo Puschj executive committee, N.

W. Bernard, James Finley, Sabino Otero, and ex-ofiicio members, tho president and secretary. An agree ment a-i to the plan of campaign against the Papagoes was drawn up and signed by all the catllemcu present aud will bo offered for signatures to all others interested in that Indian infested re gion. The first carload of cheese from tho Salt River valley left Tempo Tuesday. The safe'iu Johusou store in Mesa City was broken iuto aud robbed of $25 Saturday. The board of supervisors of Mohave county placed tho tax levy of that couuty at $3 on tho $100 valuatiou. A telegram from Solomouville says that J. T.

Fitzgerald, an old resident of Graham county and a merchant of Solomouville, died there very suddenly of appoplcxy. Mr. Fitzgerald had just returned from a visit to California, where ho formed one of Governor Frankliu's party. Judge Wright yesterday received a from Santa Fo informing him of the confirmation cf the Canoa grant, which has becu iu litigation for several years. This is the first grant iu the Tci ritory coufirmed since the confirmation of the Algadoucs graut.

The Canoa, held by Maish Driscoll of this city, embraces nearly 47,000 acres, and lies beyond Brown's ranch, this side of Tubac. Star. The tax levy of Gila couuty is $4 ou tho $100 valuatiou. The Belt" says: Tho levies made by the Territorial Board of Equalization for the reform school, normal school and university under the acts of 1895, amounting to 91 cents, are omitted from the Gila county levy, tho board of supervisors having refused to iucludu them on the ground that they arc illegal. Tho contract for surveying and marking the line segregating the Deer Creek coal fields'frora the Sau Carlos Indian reservation has bceu awarded to Samuel Logan of Graham county. The line will be about forty-five miles long, to be marked by stone mouu-ments one-half mile apart. Mr. Logan agrees to do tho work for $12 per mile. Ho estimates that he can complete the survey in two weeks and expects to begin about tho 1st of September.

Belt. Several very heavy aud important real estate transactions were recorded yesterday. The New England Land Company disposed of 440 acres of land in oraiigcs, apricots, at Glcndale, to Robert Mauu Woods for a $95,000 consideration. And the same individual disposed of the same to tho Glen-dale Fruit Company for $110,000, sub ject to a $30,000 mortgage. The Orange Land Company disposes of a half section of land to Chas.

E. Ki m- ball for $10,000. This would indicate Unit real estate matters iu tho valley aie rapidly picking up. Republican. Delegate Murphy has returned from Washington, and is being congratu lated by Arizouaus, irrespective of paity, for the services ho has reudcred the Territory.

Delegate Murphy wears the proud distinction of having ac complished more for Arizona during tho last eighteen months iu Congress thau any of his predecessors accomplished duriug their whole terms of of service, and more thau did Mark Smith duriug tho eight years for which ho drew his salary as delegate from this Territory.
