The discovery of a rich gold ant silver ledge near Tesla, Sonora, sev en miles north of Navajoa, on the Mayo river ha sreeulted in a stam pede, asd greet many claims have been, staked. The Southern Pacific mine, locate ed 10 mllos north of Navajoa, has been taken otr by the Mexican-American Smelting Refining com pany and preparations are being made to install machinery.

Ths Is a lead-silver ore and carries somo gold. Considerable work has been done on this property. The most noteworthy feature of tho mining industry in the stato of Sonora, and particularly in this s-trict. In tho past few years, has been tho progress made in developing the gold-tearing ores. Tho new camp -of Sobia Is situat ed about 36 miles north of Navajoa.

While the district gives promise of becoming an important one, but two mines have so far been developed. and. ono of these has been held back by unfortunate conditions In the form of improper management. though It has a largo body of high grade ore in sight. There is a small stamp mill in operation on this property and to date the mine has pro duced J60.000 or $70,000 gold.

Overmnller snd Wilson have installed a hoist and we preparing to erect a 10-stamp mill on their property, and will soon bo milling high-grade ore. T. Lyons and' a. number of other El Paso people have interested themselves in tho camp, and it is understood wHl soon begin development work on 'their property. Navajoa is bccoralnc a very la-T-ortant mining and agricultural en-tor nod in the pM two asonth Financial.

SITUATION IS NOW MUOH BETTER Country Beginning to Feel the Natural Result of Liquidation The Security MarkeJ Promises More 'Activity With Added Firmness It Is the hopo. If not the absolute bolief, that tfee oventt of the year 1911 as they gradually develope will be or a constructive character. Evidences certainly accumulate that I one feature after another in the gen- eral situation bows improvement. says tho Kews Bureau. We aro beginning to feel tho natural result of liquidation and economy.

The country Is finally accumulating capital. Railroad traffic returns sur-1 prise even tho officials of the roads themselves, and the only explana- Hon is that products are being rushed to market. Now that we have passed the in- visible line that separatee the old and now year, and new ledges ed, sorco increase In mercantile commitments is likely Of course the' aro still a number of vital prob'emj to bo settled but they should shortly bo out of the way and, however they are determined, confidence should Improvo for it is the uncertainty that so adversely affects 3entlment. With the return of Interest and dividend money to tho centers, tho security market is apt to bo more active and firmer. For a long time 1 it has been evident" that themarket has been sold to a standstill, so that It would require but littlo real buying to turn tho tide of prices.

It is fair to assume that If money is not urgently wanted in trade, it will bo employed In somo direction, and that far-sighted men will be found who will bo willing to discount business prosperity. Very probab'y the market will have several false starts before the change will receive general recognition. Any upward movement must be expected to be resisted after a year of depression. Low prices make skeptics, and to such an extent in some cases that nothing short of speculative losses cJa change opini'n. GOOD ORE BODIES II LI OAK GOOD SHOWING MADE WITH DEVELOPMENT OF GLOBE PROPERTIES GLOBE, Jan.

That tho Live Oak Development company's properties aro more extensive than the most optimistic have predicted is evidence from tho showings being made with every hole being drilled Tho last strike is reported In Hole No. 38. which Is 400 Teot west of No. 34, and goes to pnvo tho large extension In every direction of the enormous oro bodies already developed In tho properties. At the present bottom of No.

3S the drill is still in ere which assays over three per cent of copper and the thickness of tho ore body, tho hot-1 torn of which has not yet been discovered. Is 75 feet i 'many large tracts of land In the 'Mayo valley have changed hands. I Six carloads tf mining machinery have been received hero In the last 'six weeks to bo installed in this district Tho Fundlclon smelter, 45 north of Navajoa will begin opera tions in the next 60 days and has contracted for a large a-; mount of ore I There aro mnny properties in Ibis district that only await the starting of tho smelters at Fundlclon and Ouaymas to Mark them among the Jargc producers of Mexico.
