Hamilton has prepared and drawings for a new fence around the Capitol Grounds, which has been accepted and approved by the Board of Capitol Commissioners, and for which proposals for construction are to be at once invited. The fence will consist of a granite coping, with handsome massive granite Banked by cast-iron scroll fenders. The coping will be capped with a very handsome rail, formed with gaspipe and cast-iron pcroll work. The fence, when complete, will be about 3 feet 9 inches in and the piers about 14 feet, wiiich are all of granite. The panels on the four sides of the piers ill be finished in what ib known aa ipiarry dress, with unpolished surface.

The corners will be carved and richly polished, while the top will ba domed with a pediment on each side, with raised panels that are also polished, and the dome surmounted by a unique carved finial. The piers will flank each opening and stand as imposing sentinels to the various walks and drives leading to the Capitol. There will be no gates, but simply the openings remaining between the piers, with a small castirou scroll-finish extending from a piint about two feet upon these to the walk, and having the appearance of a relief support. Notice for sealed proposals to construct the fence is published, requiring bids to be presented by July when the contract will be let and it is the purpose of the Board to have the wirk commenced and carried forward as promptly as possible. The improvement will be commenced at the west side of Eleventh, on street, and built to Tenth street thence to N.

and, if the appropriation holds out, as far around as to Eleventh street, on the south side. It is thought that possibly funds at on hand, which are to be applied to this work, may sufficient to build as far as indicated, uirl which will add greatly to the beauty of the Capitol grounds and bring theiii more into harmony with the architecture of the Capitol building. The Second Ward Republican Club held a meeting last evening at the Grand Hotel, on Front street, A. J. Senatz, President of the Club, presiding. The committee appointed to select a hall for meetings of the Club reported that they had secured the same where the meeting was being held. Anton Brewer was elected Treasurer of the Club, and an Executive Committee was elected consisting of Messrs.

Hadwick, Nichols and Stalker. E. D. Mcljraw was elected Sergeant-at-Arms. A committee from the other Second Ward Club appeared and desired consolidation and unity of action between the forces of the two organizations.

After considerable discussion upon the subject, upon motion of Judge Welty, a committee was appointed to confer with a like committee from the other Club. W. Welty, A. J. Senatz.

A. S. Crable, William Hadwick. and A. Brewer were appointed committee.

The joint committee will meet at the Grand Hotel next Friday for conference. Several additional names were given to the roll of membership. Judge Welty, upon being called for, addressed the Club, and made a rousing speech for Garfield and Arthur. He said because the Democrats had nominated a General of the Regular Army they thought to divert attention from the real issues between the parties, but they could not do so. The Republican party proposed to fL'ht the Democratic party, and it would make no difference who they nominated.

Speeches were al-o made by others, and a general pood feeling was manifest. The Club, on motion, adjourned to meet on Tuesday evening of each week until Garfield and Arthur are elected. Teial of J.lrs. time of the Superior Court was consumed yesterday in the trial of Mrs. N.

A. Hamilton, who is I charged with having, in this city, on the 14th of last March, committed a murderous asj sault upon a girl named Nettie Wiuklepleck. I The prosecution is represented by District Attorney Henry L. Buckley, and the defend- I ant by Clinton L. White.

From the testimony thus far elicited it appears that Mrs. Hamilton, believing that aa improper intimacy existed between her husband and the girl Xettie. induced the latter, in consideration of the payment of a sum of money, to agree to face Mr. Hamilton, and in the presence of himself and his wife admit of the intimacy. Oa the above date the defendant, in company with her husband, repaired to the residence of Nettie, and while the husband remained upon the walk near the door Mrs.

Hamilton went up stairs for the purpose of having the girl go down face Mr. Hamilton. While on the stairway, and in the act of coming down, the girl changed her mind and refused to go any further, whereupon Mrs. Hamilton, becoming incensed, drew from her pocket a small pistol and shot the girl three times, one shot enterin? the upper lip, another the side of the head and the third shot taking effect in ths thigh. The evidence on the part of the people has been given in accordance with these facts.

The defense interposed is that of impulsive insanity, and for the purpose of sustaining which the leading physicians of the city have been subpenaed as witnesses. The trial will be resumed at 10 o'clock this morning. Meeting of the The Horribles held another meeting last evening at the Court-house, which was largely attended and much enthusiasm manifested. Reports were received from Folsom, Chico, Woodland, Florin, Dixon, Stockton and Marysville, stating that delegations would be present from those places and compete for the prizes oilered by the Committee of Arrangements. A large number of prominent citizens were present, and promised their supj port and any further aid they might be called UDon to give, and some cf them expressed their intention of taking part in the proceedings, to add to its horrible character.

The enthusiasm attending the preparations of the Horribles and the general indications in that direction that it will be the largest pirade of the kind and most horrible in its detail ever witnessed in the Capital City. The Agricultural has been selected as the point of rendezvous and place where the will tortn. The line of march will lie determined hereafter, and in connection with the other branch of the celebration. The meeting adjourned until eveniug. A At Father Mathew Hall last night a number of colored citizens gave an entertainment for the benefit of Siloam Baptist Church, on Fifth street.

Mrs. Fletcher and Mrs. Washington sung the duet "Murmuring Sea," and won deserved applause for a good effort and the care they exercised in rendering the selection. Ulysses and Isaac Triplett and Mary Williams gave a very amnsicg come Jy sketch, anil presented it well. Mrs.

The tei-ts were not very satisfactory, though those who received communications vouched for their being to the point, but no sufficient opportunity was afforded to examine into the medium's lev th' ii- and powers, and the unbelievers departed firm in their heresy. In fact, Stone's arul manifestations were not pronounv.ed successes. He himself stated that the "conditions" were not "favorable." AUCTIOKB.
