THE DAILY THIUSDAY APKIL MM. PACIFIC SLOPE NEWS. LAST JHGHTS DISPATCHES TO THE UECORDUMON. THE MAKIN 00UNTY MYSTERY. Disappearance of Severance Still Unexplained.

PASSENGERS FROM THE EAST BY RAH. Doubts in £an Francisco as to the Legality of the Charter Election. MUTINOUS WORKWOMEN'S WARD CLUBS. Eaconraglng Cutlook in Regard to the Fishing Season in Oregon. CALIFORNIA.

MnlJiiotii Wurkinemen. San Fbancisco, April The Ward Clubs of the Workingmen's Party are mutinous under the action ot the State Central Committee in nominating four delegates to the Chicago Convention, the feeling being that the clubs of the State should do all the nominating, and resolutions have been adopted in several clubs censuring the committee for their action. The names selected by the State Committee are Denis Kearney, delegate at large C. W. Hogs, of Nevada city, second district Musaelman, of Dixon, third district Warren Chase, fourth district.

The San Franeiitco Charter as to Its Legality. San Fbancisco, April 7th. Some doubt hangs over the legality of the recent charter election, owing to the fact that the decision of the Supreme Court in the injunction case agains the Election Commissioners was based merely on a technicality, that the proceedings the injunction were defective. To assure themselves on the point before they go to work on the charter, the freeholders-elect will take steps to test the question, and to facilitate getting the question before the Courts the Finance Committee of the Board of Supervisors have instructed the Treasurer not to pay any demands growing out of the original call for the election issued by the Election Commissioners. The Narln County Xo Traces of the Body of the Misting Theories Regarding the Murder.

San Rafael, April far the impenetrable mystery which envelops the Severance tragedy remains undissipated and unexplained. Quite a posse of men worked at the ranch to-day to discover any traces of the body of the musing man, but all in vain. The creek was diverted from its natural course, the marsh was thoroughly researched, and the former bed of the stream dragged from top to bottom without avail. The opinion was freely expressed that the body will never be found. The theory that Ah Lung was aided in the murder of his master by highbinders is rendered the more probable by the fact that early on Saturday morning two villainous-looking Chinamen took passage from Saucelito on the Petaluma for San Francisco.

Some of the ranchers advance the theory that the conspirators rowed up the creek in a skiff, and carried the body of the murdered man to the place where they left it moored, after which they floated down the creek, and weighting the body with a chain, dropped it into the bay. Some people attach considerable importance to the fact that on Friday evening, when Charles Soverauce stopped at Victor's, the wayside inn referred to in a former dispatch, he took a drink there with a sailor connected with a schooner belonging to Lemuel Espinosa, which lay anchored near the mouth of the creek, and the same night she was seized by the United States Marshal. She is now in San Francisco. Sheriff Mason went to the ranch this afternoon, and while there met Mr. Throckmorton, who came with him to San Rafael, and futilely endeavored to extract any additional information from the Chinaman, who was placed in jail here this morning.

It seems that the Mongolian domestic who was employed on the Severance ranch during Ah Lung's supposed absence in China stated that he was discharged on Ah Lung's return that the latter had not been in China at all, but was in San Francisco, where he associated with Chinese criminals of the worst type. Since Ah Lung's arrival here the Sheriff has been besieged by Chinamen who desire to converse with the Mongolian prisoner. Ah Wy, the Chinaman who was arrested and subsequently released, returned from San Francisco this afternoon. A detective in the employ of Harry Morse reached the scene of the tragedy this afternoon. He expressed some dissatisfaction with the way in which all evidences and clues had been removed, and said that nothing could be done in the case until the body was discovered.

Until that event took place he could not be positive that Severance was killed. The first move of the detective was to search the kitchen stove, where he found a small lump of lead, coated with brass, which he thought was the filling of a button such as is commonly worn by the Chinese, and which might indicate that Ah Lang had destroyed the clothes he wore on Friday night by burning Ex-Sheriff Tunstead, who was interviewed by your correspondent this evening, expresses his disbelief in the Chinaman's story, and says that his probable motive in telling it is to remove suspicion from himself and fasten it on the shoulders of the Portuguese. He also states that Mr. Throckmortoo, inconsequence of a suggestion of his, announced his intention of offering a reward of $500 for the dis. covery of the body of Severance, and an additional reward of $500 for the conviction of his murderer.

Sheriff Wason exhibited the ax to your COCTWyndeilt this evening. It is clotted with blood mi both back and sides. Short bits of hair are mixed with the blood, and altogether the weapon's appearance is sinister and significant evidence of some dark deed of violence. Mr. Hoard, a gentleman pMMwhlg considerable chemical knowledge, who resides here, examined the ax this evening, and said that it would be quite an easy matter to determine wl eth-r the stains on the metal were those of a chicken or human blood.

The investigation of the past few days seems only to intensify the dark mystery of the tragic affair. The tracks which might have enabled skilled detectives to fasten the guilt where it belongs have been removed, and present teem to indicate that this strange affair will long remain an unsolved mystery. A full confession of Ah Lung Don appears to be the only thing which will explain the affair, and one of the chief mistakes of those who have thus far been managing the case has been their carelessness in permitting the Chinaman, who understands English perfectly, to overhear their plans and theories. As it is, he is thoroughly familiar with every feature of the case, and will not be likely to criminate himself when he knows that there is no danger of his conviction. The ITrathcr-l'rop Outlook.

San Buenaventura, April At last the storm is over and the bright sunshine is fladly welcomed. The total rainfall since 'riduy is 2.81 inches, and for the season 21.26 inches. Over $200,000 worth of wool will be clipped in this county during the next four weeks. The late reason has prevented either burrs or dust getting into the fleeces, and it is the best crop ever marketed. Fanners will, after catting their early barley, be able to raise a crop of corn or beans on the same ground this year.

The Cut of the Georgia Defaulting Tax Caller i or. Angeles, April 7th. A writ of habeas corpus was served to-day by the Chief of Police upon Sheriff Rowland, of this county, commanding him to deliver S. R. Hoyle, the defaulting Tax Collector of Atlanta, the United States District Court, Judge Hoffman, in San Francisco, by 11 o'clock A.

on the 15th inst. The writ was issued from Judge Hoffman's Court. The Governor's warrant was served on Hoyle about a week ago, and since that time the habeas corpus cate has been vibrating between the different Courts," and every obstruction pos; Fible placed in the way of the officers from Georgia being allowed to extricate their prisoner. Everything was, so far as the defendant is concerned, in a t-omewhat tain condition until this writ was served today," when the plan of the prosecution was revealed. It is understood that the District Attorney will move, at the opening of the I Court, to-morrow morning, that all proceedings under the habeas corpus case in the perior Court be dismissed.

On that motion the question of the jurisdiction of the State Courts will be determined. Desperate Enounce or a Mexican. AKAHriM, night about 11 o'clock Deputy Sheriffs Celis and Barbara visited the- Mexican quarters of this town for the purpose of capturing two Mexicans whom I they suspected ot having committed the robberies at Orange and San Gabriel. Knfael Mirando was caught with-' I out 1 much i effort, but Claudio a well-known outlaw, drew his pistol, but before he could use it Ceiis fired at him. He fell, but sprang up and fired at the officer, who again returned the tire, and the outlaw again fell.

Celis tired two more all he had in his in rapid succession, but Carrizosa, favored by the intense darkness and a dense growth of weeds, made his escape. This morning great pools of blood were found at the place of the encounter, and the outlaw's horse was found dying in an adjacent field. The course of the robber was tracked by blood for over two miles, and officers are now scouring the country in search of him. His capture is momentarily expected. Delegates J.lcclcil.

Beat it well with a rolling-pin. This renders it tender and preserves the juice. Place upon a broiler and cook for seven or ten minutes, turning frequently. When done, lay it upon a hot plate and season with salt and pepper and a little butter. Never chop meat with a sharp instrument.

It severs the fibers, thus allowing the juice to escape while cooking. Miss Clara Louise Kellogg will probably reappear in London during the forthcoming musical season. GROCERIES, LIQUORS, ETC. S. GOLDMAN, VITHOLESALE AND RETAIL GROCER KortbTvest corner Second and streets, ACRAMRXTO.
