Prank Augustine Mrs. Florence W. Stephen Toraascik Man arrested WILKES-RARRE TWP. Township police, working in conjunction with Weatherly police, arrested a Weatherly man Saturday night and charged him with stealing four tires from a Jeep parked at a service garage on Route 315.. Douglas Hoffman, 24, of 107 Packer Weatherly, was charged with criminal attempt and arraigned before Pittston Magistrate Joseph Au-gello.

Hoffman is charged with taking the tires from a Jeep parked at the Burger Brothers Mobil station and body shop, near the former Gorman's Dairy restaurant site. Station co-owner Jack Milbrodt told police he. caught a man on the lot of the station at about 7:30 p.m. removing the tires from a Jeep; the Jeep was supported by cinder blocks. The suspect fled, but Milbrodt took down the license number of the car.

About an hour later, Hoffman was apprehended. House fire probed NANTICOKE State police at Wyoming have joined city fire and police departments in an investigation of a fire that did $10,000 in damages to a vacant home at 223 W. Main St. on New Year's Eve. Reportedly arson is suspected; power in the two-story wood frame structure had been turned off prior to the blaze.

State police said the building, owned by John and Eleanor Krieger of 131 Park St. in Nanticoke, had been vacant for "at least" seven years. Truck destroyed WILKES-BARRE Overheated brake linings were the apparent cause of a fire that destroyed a truck and damaged a canopy it was parked under at the Sunshine Market 53 Spring St early Sunday. Assistant Fire Chief Robert Weale said the fire started at. about 4:05 a.m.

in a rear tire of an International truck parked on the east side of the supermarket. The truck, owned by Central Scrap Co. of Pittston, was destroyed, Weale said. The truck is kept there regularly, Weale said, Six firefighters required about 25 minutes to fully extinguish the flames, which engulfed the rear of the truck and part of the canopy. Fire officials would make no estimate of damages.

Theft investigated WILKES-BARRE City police are investigating a break-in and theft at the Thomas Building, 111 Ave. on Saturday. Cleaning and maintenance personnel at the building discovered that theives broke into several second-floor vending machines and ransacked sev-' eral offices in the building. Hostages (Continued from page 1A) failed to meet Iran's demands. On the trial threats, Powell said, "We have made it very clear that our people were placed on trial that the government of the United States could not sit idly by and that very serious consequences would flow from that," he said.

"I believe the Iranians understand that very clearly." Iran has demanded that Washington deposit some $24 billion in cash and gold in Algeria as "guarantees" against the return of Iranian assets frozen in the United States and return of money allegedly taken out of the country by the late shah of Iran. Tehran has also demanded a U.S. pledge of non-interference in Iranian affairs and the dropping of legal claims against the Islamic Republic. Washington has told Iran that Jan. 16 is the last practical day for reaching a settlement with the Carter administration.

President-elect Ronald, Reagan is to be sworn in Jan. 20. On Saturday, Tehran Radio said it was "totally improbable the hostages would he freed before Reagan takes office. Tehran Radio usually reflects the views of the Islamic fundamentalists who form a majority in the Iranian Parliament. The fundamentalists, in-, eluding Rajai, have clashed on a number of issues with Iran's secular mod Tompkins Mrs.
