The burning of leaves and rubbish during tho afternoon, in violation of the ordinance, has become a perfect nuisance and the expression of indignation from sufferers is loud and emphatic against those who so wantonly disregard the health of the community and the comfort of their neighbors, to say nothing of the risk of being hauled up in tho Police Court some tine morning to answer lor it. The police have as yet made no arrests, having contented themselves with warning people and compelling them to put out the tires, but there is so much complaint that more vigorous measures are to be taken. Urew, in conversation with a KkcoitD-Union reporter yesterday, gave some instances ol how somo who no doubt think they are estimable citizens, presume 011 their wealth, position or personal friendship with him and expect immunity. i One prominent lady to whom he went the aiteruoou before demurred to putting out the lire, and when he insisted on i compliance with his orders, she said it was an outrageous ordinance and an imposition, lie reolied that he did not make it, but should enforce it, and if she aid not like it she must get it repealed. A well-known citizen, presuming on his acquaintance, built a large fire to burn up some brush and green weeds, and refused to put it out when remonstrated.

"They told mo about it wnen 1 came home," said the Chief, and 1 told ihom 1 wished 1 had happened along about that time. He would have put out that lire very quickly or i would have takou him to the station, lrieud or no fneud. People have no business to try to take advantage that way." "Yes," said an oflicer who was sitting by; "that is the way they treat the police when they are told to extinguish the lires. I told a lady yesterday that she must put out the rire, and she said, 'You will have to see the doctor about I I told her that the lire must be put out mediately, and ihat if I had to see the doctor about it, I arrest him. Sho I doesn't like me any more, and that is the way it goes." If one or two of those who thus presume upon their position are arrested and lined, as poorer people would bo, it would probably deter others from following their example, and atl'ord exemption to iuvalids and others from a practice which is a menace to the health of the community.

It remains to bo seen if it will be done. ATTEMPTED TRAIN-WRECK. of tho Misureimts Captured and iti Custody. A dastardly attempt at train-wrecking was made yesterday morniug at supposed to bo by two boy-tramps who wore put oil' a train there. A coupling-link which was brokon in two was placed on the track just outside the yard, iv such a position that, had it not been fortunately discovered, would have wrecked the first traiu passing.

A reputable farmer, Will Childa, discovered the link, and, removing it, notified the authorities. Shoriff Wyckoll arrested two men, but as they did not answer the description given ho released them. Later in the day another fellow was arrested and taken to Woodland. It is thought that he is one of the miscreants. Later advk-es that the young man, or rather hu is only 14 years old, iind gives his name as wucaptured near Putah Creek.

When found tho obstruction on tho track the two hahes of the link were so lixed that the tiHin could not knock it oil, and wreck would lave inevitably resulted. JIo noticed two young men hitting not im- away, ami described them to Sheriff Wyckotf. tho local train which passes at would soon have bei-n along, and C'hilds' discovery was a most iortunatu one lor all concerned. Young Millar, when rirst arrested, riiou all knowledge of tho attempted crime, but finally broke down and con(eesed that he was with an older boy, whose name he does not know, but who. ho thought, lived in and who lixed the link on the track.

He says it was only done for fun. When ho was searched at the jail a skeleton key was louud in his pocket. Anctlou Sale. On Tuesday next Bell Co. will sell at auction at 420 street the entire bankrupt stock of the hardware and crockery store of F.

A. (iains A Co. of The sale will commence at a. as they are determined to close out tho entire stock Hiring the sale. Goods will bo oli'ered in lots to suit purchasers.

Ueeovereil His Watch. An old man named Mcl-'adden complained to the police last night that somebody had robbed him of a cold watch. The timepiece was afterward recovered in down-town 6aioon, where the proprietor claimed McL-'addeu put it up for drinks. Mrs, Henry Ward Beecher Says She Has Known But Half a Dozen Women Who Were Thoroughly Well I The Routine of Domestic Tasks Overdrains Iheir Nervous Force. "Among all my the number of my acquaintances has necessarily been rather large," says Mrs. lleury Ward Beecher, "I can recall bul half a dozen thoroughly well womeu." So mauy, in order to obtain the reputation of being good housewives, work from moruiug till night, cooking, sweeping and ovorhauliug. "What would the house look like." they ask, "if I were noc constantly lookiug after it?" It would certainly look a erood deal more homelike it" the wife and mother kept her health and spirits instead of growing old and careworn from the struggle with dust and the neglect of their tired, aching nerves, and pale, watery blood that daily becomes more and more badly nourished. It is not tho ht-althy weariness of muscle aud brain, so easily forgotteu after a good night's sleep; but it is the weariness that remains till morning, aud follows one MKS.

K. L. WIN through the day, that should cause anxiety and a desire for prompt relief. When the nerves and the blood have thus become so badly nourished and the strength thus roduced, appropriate lor building up the nervous tissue rost, are the plain and simple moans, in lact, the only means of restoring vigor and health. All the material so urgently needed by the million of ex-1 hausted nerve cells aud by the thin, depleted blood are found in that remarkable invigorator, that food for the brain and I nerves, Paine's celery compound.

It nils the nervous and muscular tissues all over the body with the means of rapid growth, the blood gains now red corpus- I eles and grows ruddy aud capable of thoroughly feeding the body. The strength returns aud headaches, dysDepsia, neuralgia and nervous debility "disappear when the tone of tho system has boen thus raised and tho body abundautly supplied with life-giving blood. The very tirst week in which this periect nerve food, Paiue's celery compound is conscientiously employed it will declare its tonic effect by the feeling returmug streugth, a marked increase in the appetite, Ireedom from pain and depiossion. Paiue's celery compound cures radically and permanently rheumatism, heart weakness, diseases of the liver aud the kidneys and encourages the excretory organs to expel whatever impuro humors there may be in the blood. This is evij deut by the healthier, clearer condition of the skin that physicians say invariably iollows when they prescribe I'aiue's celery compound, as they so commonly do where tho body needs building up and wheu recovery is slow after acute diseases.

Here is the experience of Mrs. E. L. Wing of l'utney, told in her owii words: "1 had been alllicted with rheumatism and neuralgia for mauy years. In a year and a half I have taken eight bottles of Paine's celery compound and have not been so free from these troubles iv 15 as lam now.

1 advise all who are alllicted in auy way with rheumatism or neuralgia to use Paine's celery compound. "lor the nerves and tired feelings, I think it is the best dose of ambition that 1 have ever found. Before I had taken one bottle I felt almost like another person. Other medicines have given me only temporary reliei. But the compound has done mo more permanent good thau the doctors or auy other mediciue, and lean hardly feel grateful enough for the benefit that 1 have derived from i ts use." LOST-FOUND.
