New Hospital At GOODLAND Trustees of -Boothroy Memorial hospital here have' 'taken a stand favoring construction. of "a new hospital. The board made its decision after hearing a report prepared by an architect. The report was to recommend ways to improve hospital facilities in the community. Wayne Jensen, chairman, said the board decided the only solution is to build' a new hospital.

He said Sherman county residents will not be eligible for benefits under the Medicare -program because the present hospital' does not meet minimum standards- outlined in the federal law. The board can only recommend construction of the hospital. The board is governed by Methodist Homes and Hospitals, which operates the Goodland The architect outlined five plans to improve the facilities, ranging from complete rebuilding partial rebuilding and extensive remodeling. Estimated costs of the five plans ranged from $1,212,400 down to $1,012,800. The present hospital was built in 1922.

An addition was built in 1948. Thwarts Escape BERLIN The West Berlin Information Office IWE reported a 15-year-old boy has been' given a bicycle and an East German policeman a medal for thwarting an escape suspect. Mrs. Mike Grennan, music teacher at Simpson, is in charge of the production. Everyone is invited to the show. There will be no admission charge. Fire Equipment Attracts 300 HOPE Nearly 300 persons attended the Hope rural fire department's 'display of equipment here Saturday.

The equipment was at the new city hall fire department building which houses the combined equipment of the Hope city and rural fire departments. The structure was built by Minneapolis Steel Minneapolis. The rural department's equipment includes two pumpers and a semi truck tank unit, used to supply the pumpers. The department also has a jeep with a portable electric power unit. Serves Three Townships The rural departments serves Hope and Ridge townships and Banner township west of Hope to K15.

The city's equipment includes a pumper unit and a hose truck. "The rural people were impressed with their fire protection," Jerry Rittle, the rural department's chief, said. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Barton, heir three young sons, Erk, 'ony and Larry, and Mrs. Baron's brother, Kenneth Chamber- ain, have found a home here. About two weeks ago the fam- ly was stranded west when the car broke down.

According to the Russell Daily Tews, they had left Denver, after two months.of job- essness and were headed for a promised farm job in Southern Missouri. The oldest Barton boy, Eric, is in the second grade at school. When they were stranded, Russell citizens pitched in to help. They found the family temporary quarters at a motel. His father in law, George Washington Amos, 76, told police he stabbed Taube with butcher knife when Taube came at him with a knife in Taube's apartment. The wounded man staggered to a nearby hospital where he died a few minutes later. Amos' daughter, Mrs.

Mildred Taube, 44, told police she was between the men, trying to separate when Amos reached over her shoulder and stabbed Taube. Amos is being held under $3500 bond for preliminary hearing Dec. 29 on a charge of second degree murder. 24, 26, 27 Dog Mauls Kansas Child BELLE PLAINE, Kan. (AP) Police searched today for a dog w5iich mauled a 2 year old boy here Sunday. The child, Phil Rofenbaum, son of Mr. and Mrs. B.

R. Rosenbaum, is hospitalized at Wellington where about 30 stitches were needed to close wounds in his head. He is reported in good condition. The boy went outside Sunday to play and a short time later his parents heard him crying. "Phil was standing there with blood all over his face," Rosenbaum said.
