The 101 points set a modern-day, single-game scoring record, breaking the old mark of 80-0 against Hampton University in 1987. But the total only ties the all-time mark.

Central State was known as Wilberforce State College in 1947 when it defeated the Wright Field Kittyhawks by the same 101-0 score. Walter Sellers, the retired former director of alumni affairs at CSU who still assists university President Dr. Arthur E. Thomas, played in the '47 game at left halfback. Sellers, on hand at Saturday's game, was asked to compare the teams.

"This team is just too powerful," Sellers said. "Billy Joe has brought this club along from the beginning of the season to the point where they're just awesome now. defense has always been outstanding. Now the offense is coming together." CSU quarterback "Hurricane" Henderson Mosley was the star. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound sophomore from Washington, D.C., rushed for three touchdowns and passed for a career-high six.

His scoring runs covered 6, 37 and 7 yards and his TD passes went for 5, 11,53, 22, 15 and 4 yards. Robert Jackson and James Hicks caught two scoring passes each, while Jerry Jones and Antoine Harris grabbed the other two. "There's no way in the world you can dream of scoring 100 points," Mosley said. "And doing it in only a little more than three quarters it's unbelievable. Guess you could say I had an all-right day." One soft punch would easily have knocked out the Dragons, but the Marauders unfortunately decided to go with their heavy artillery.

Joe played his starters into the third quarter he didn't pull Mosley until the score was 73-0 and it could backfire in the long run. If anything can inflate an ego, it's scoring 101 points in a game. But CSU can't afford to be overconfident with Northern Michigan coming to town this Saturday. The Wildcats beat CSU last season. "Lane's a freshman-sophomore oriented team and we're mostly juniors and seniors," Joe said.

"That kind of combination made for an explosive situation. "They caught us when we were hot. When that happens, we put some big numbers on the board. We didn't try to do it. The guys just got hot and things started happening." Mosley said Lane must accept part of the blame for the blowout.

The Dragons used a nine-man defensive front as they tried to stop CSU's running game. There was one-on-one coverage on the CSU receivers, so Mosley went to the air. "They didn't take heed of the message," Mosley said. "They kept moving guys up the line of scrimmage, so we kept passing." CSU rolled up 508 yards 354 in the air, 154 on the ground and held Lane to 37. The Dragons passed for 84 but had minus-47 rushing.

Lane crossed midfield at 6:48 of the third quarter and had a first down at CSU's 1 1. But the drive ended with Derrick Williams' second interception of the game. "I just hope it's not a case where we need points next week, but we can't get them because we left them on the field today," Joe said. "If we lose next week, our chances of the playoffs are shot."
