Keystone 6 7Steckl4.Ping2 Uirysler 25. Trojan Gear 9 By Hal McCoy STAFF SPORTS WRITER TAKING NAMES: A "voluntary" extra batting practice session took place early Tuesday afternoon in Dodger Stadium for IV2 hours and only six Reds showed up Glenn Braggs, Eric Davis, Billy Hatcher, Ron Oester, Paul O'Neill and Herm Winningfiam. Manager Lou Piniella took note. "When we get home, I'm going to schedule an extra hour of hitting for all those who want it," Piniella said. "And I'll tell you something, the guys who do not come out are just not going to play." Pmiella's remark is reminiscent of one made by former Reds Manager Dave Bristol.

When he managed the Giants during a losing streak, Bristol announced after a game on the road, "There will be two buses to the stadium tomorrow. The first one will be for those who need extra hitting. The empty bus leaves an hour later." SKINHEAD OESTER: Saying he'd try anything to stop the eight-game losing streak, Ron Oester asked to have all the hair on his head shaved after Monday's loss and Eric Davis obliged him. "I plead temporary insanity, I was under the influence of eight straight losses," Davis said. "I wanted about eight guys to do it, but they wouldn't," Oester said.

"I've been around the longest so I sacrificed. Earlier this season, we all were going to shave our heads if we won ten straight. Somebody said they'd do it if we lost ten straight and I said, 'I don't want to wait that I've been on too many losers around here. I'm willing to try anything, I really am. "A lot of guys have come up and rubbed my bald head for good luck," Oester said.

"Anything to break this up." TELEPHONE TOPICS: Piniella made an interesting telephone call and received an interesting telephone call Tuesday. First, he called majority owner Marge Schott Tuesday morning and chatted for an hour. "Very encouraging conversation," Piniella said. "She is concerned like everyone else. I assured her this club isn't going to lay down for anybody.

I let her know we're working and battling to get this turned around." Later in the afternoon, minority owner Bill Reik, of New York City called Piniella in his clubhouse office. "Words of encouragement," Piniella said. "Avery nice call and much appreciated." NO EXAMINATION: Pitcher Danny Jackson felt so good after throwing for 15 minutes in Cincinnati Tuesday that an examination of his partially torn rotator cuff was canceled. "He threw at 75 to 80 per cent velocity and said it felt well," Piniella said. "He is going to throw again Thursday when we get home and I'll be able to watch.

It's very encouraging." A Monday's Results Howell Field Iivnkees8.vandalia6 Tuesday's Results CLASS Li Yankees 5. Burgundy 2 CLASS AA "I Si. Jtoaoeth Sports Medecme 17. Martin Roesmk $6,750 FROM WIRE AND STAFF REPORTS I NFL: Colts trade Chandler Chris Chandler, the Indianapolis Colts' disgruntled quarterback, was traded to Tampa Bay on Tuesday, a week after suing the Colts for breach of contract. The terms of the trade were not immediately released. Colts officials said the deal was contingent upon Chandler reporting to camp at Tampa and passing a physical Chandler had reported to Colts camp at Anderson University on July 19, but left the next day. The Atlanta Falcons still have no idea when Deion Sanders will show up for preseason training camp, and will continue to fine the second-year cor-nerback $1,500 per day until he arrives.

On Monday, three days after it was reported that Sanders was ready to sign a $2 million contract with baseball's New York Yankees, Sanders said the deal was off and he would report to the Falcons shortly. Dexter Manley told NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue through his attorney that he is dropping attempts to get out of his Washington Redskins contract and sign with a Canadian team. Manley, banned for violating the National Football League's substance abuse policy, said he hopes to play in the league after Nov. 18, when he is eligible to be reinstated. Baseball: Tigers try for Gibson Hours before Tuesday's midnight trading deadline, the Detroit Tigers made a renewed attempt to acquire outfielder Kirk Gibson from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It is believed the Tigers offered left-hander Steve Searcy for Gibson, but the Dodgers who recently re-entered the National League West pennant race rejected the deal. About three weeks ago, the Dodgers offered the same Gibson-Searcy deal, but the Tigers declined to trade Searcy. Since then, Searcy made his first four starts of the season for the Tigers, going 1-2 with a 5.95 ERA. Hot-hitting George Brett of Kansas City will miss three to four days because of a bruised right collarbone sustained in a collision with Cleveland's Mitch Webster. Detroit catcher Mike Heath was suspended for two games by the American League for bumping umpire John Hirschbeck.

Heath plans to appeal and can continue playing until a hearing is held. Golf: Barkley won't play Shoal Creek Charles Barkley of the Philadelphia 76ers says he agreed to play golf at Shoal Creek Country Club, but the controversy surrounding whether or not the club admits blacks prompted him to reconsider. "After reading about the founder's comments, I felt it was in the better interests of me, as a black person, not to go," Barkley said in Tuesday's editions of The Philadelphia Inquirer. "I was excited about going, but when all this came down, I had to get out. I don't see how I can go down there and play in their pro-am when they're saying black people aren't good enough to join their club," Barkley said.

Barkley said he was invited to play golf during the week of the PGA tournament and to play in a pro-am round scheduled with it. The controversy began when Shoal Creek founder Hall Thompson said in June that pressure would not push the Birmingham, club to accept black members. Gene Sauers, fighting off a charge on the back nine by Brian Tennyson, fired birdies on the 15th and 17th holes to win the $275,000 Tylenol Kids' Classic at White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa. Sauers, who also won here in 1988 when the event was called the McNeil Classic, shot an 11-under par 133 to beat Tennyson by one stroke. Nick Price was another shot back at 135, followed by Scott Ver-plankatl36.

The rest: Hialeah Park closes Since Hialeah Park in Florida was unable to get the schedule it wanted for the 1990-91 season, the historic but financially troubled thoroughbred track has decided not to race at all. Hialeah withdrew its racing application for the coming season on Tuesday, the deadline for making such a move. The track retained its racing permit, and a decision on whether to close permanently will be made later, an attorney said.
