One To lie Missing Next season, however, one of the Ponderosa boys will be missing. Last year it was planned to marry him off in a late spring episode, then he would leave wilh his bride for his own distant spread. But Roberts changed his mind, probably after some persuasion, for no one likes to disturb the format of a successful series. "The plan is to pick up next season with an explanation that Adam has gone East to teach school," Mike Landon said.

Get an HFC Shopper's Loan By Cynthia Lowry AP Television-Radio Writer NEW YORK (AP) This is the time of year, with college graduation just ahead, when everybody directly or indirectly connected with television is deluged with The Question from young aspiring writers and but particularly writers: How can I break into television? Most authors report mournfully that their manuscripts are returned, often unopened, by networks with a form rejection slip. At the same time, they add, they are constantly hearing that television networks, production studios and independent packagers is in emergency need of new talent. Just a couple of weeks ago, Leonard H. Goldenson, president of American Broadcasting- Paramount Theatres, parent of the American Broadcasting Company's television and radio network, in a widely reported speech, addressed himself particularly to the need for developing new talent, including (he underwriting of full fellowships at Yale University's School of Drama.

If television yearns for fresh, new writing talent, what then, are the chances of the average aspiring script writer? Frankly, they downright awful. "It is terribly discouraging for the new writer, the unpublished writer, the writer with no professional reputation," said Ross Donaldson, director of NBC's program services. "And it is particularly discouraging if the writer does not function in one of television's production centers, particularly Hollywood, where most series are made. "In the first place, if he has a idea, it is likely the idea i not really new there are very few brand new story ideas and everyone is constantly combing for inspiration. It would 3e hard for an untried writer to bring much to this operation." The NBC executive explained Jiat a script writer, attempting to write professionally at a dis- from the production center, would have no way of knowing what material was planned or what problems were being encountered.

He was not completely discouraging, however, because he had one piece of concrete advice to offer: go where the action is. "If the young writer is determined, he can 'go to one of the production centers and try to get a job even if it is not exactly what he wants which may put him in a position to be noticed 1 He might try to be a page for one of the studios. Even if he only carried coffee to the director and cast, he would be in a better position to know what was needed and to be noticed himself."
