He had been in failing health several years. He was born Jan. 16, 1903, in Vesper where he lived all his life. Mr. Flaherty was employed by the Lincoln county highway department for 16 years and had been a school bus driver during the.

past year. He was a member of the Vesper Presbyterian Church. Mr. Flaherty is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Charlene Dewitt, Salina, and Marlene, of the home, and eight sons, Roy, Donald, Laverne, Gerald, Herbert, Harold, Denny Jee, and David, all of the home.

Shriver, told a House Appropriations subcommittee today he joins other Kansans in urging favorable actiojt on various water projects included in the President's budget for the year beginning July 1. He asked that the budgeted $1,480,000 for the Cheney project, a joint development by the Bureau of Reclamation and Wichita, be approved so work may be completed on schedule. Completion of the project, he added in a statement, would serve as a keystone in the future economic development of the Wichita metropolitan area.

The prime contract on the dam is 77 per cent complete in about 70 per cent of the allowable time, he said, and initial storage now is scheduled for November and final work could be completed next fiscal year. Railroad Aid Bill Is Killed Tuesday, April 28-WASHINGTON (AP) The House Rules Committee re'ect- ed again today the administration's national transportation bill designed to help America's railroads improve their economic conditions. The committee previously had refused to clear the bill for House consideration. Today's 8-7 vote was against a motion to reconsider the earlier action. Chairman Howard W. Smith, said the action killed the bill.

A major provision of the measure would exempt railroads irom regulation by the Interstate Commerce Commission when they haul grain and other agricultural commodities. College, a retired farmer, died Tuesday morning at his home. Mr. Gabelman was bom Dec. 28, 1686, at College Corner, Ohio. He farmed near Glendale until 1948 when he retired and moved to Salina.

He was a member of the school boards at Glendale and Lincoln 1'or many years before his He was a member of the Bap list Church. Survivors include the widow, Mary Ester, of the home; two daughters Vir i 1 a Abrams, 907 Spruce, Salina, and Mrs. Alta Jchnstone South Gate, a son, Christ EmerEon, Centralia, five grandchildren and greatgrandchil- dren; and two brothers, Edward, Goodland, and Christ, Elaine, Ore. Friends may call at the mortuary. ALFRED L. MILLER Alfred Leroy Miller, 64, 859 S. Santa Fe, 8 Navy veteran oi both world wars, died Monday night at St. John's Hospital.

Mr. Miller was a retired chief boatswain's mate and has seen overseas service in both wars. He had lived in Salina since 1947. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are the widow, Ella, 859 S.

Ryan Sons mortuary Tuesday evening. MRS. MORTEVIORE PECK GLENROCK, Wyo. v- The funeral for Mrs. Edith Peck, 83, former Bridgeport, resident, was April 17 at the Community Church, Glenrock, the Rev.

Adan Gordon officiating. Burial was in the Glenrock cemetery. Mrs. Peck died April in Thermopolis, following a heart attack. She was born May 18, 1880, in Bridgeport, where she and tier husband farmed until 1925.

In 1925 the Pecks moved to Boulder, where they lived for three years prior to moving to Glenrock. She is survived by two solo, Julius, Cheyenne, and Francis, Glenrock, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
