That is the opinion of sportsmen's groups which have-been waging "Save The Pheasant" campaigns in Russell, Ellis, Rooks and other counties. Ray Schlitter, Russell, who has been carrying feed to the birds by airplane, said many birds have starved to death.

He said he' has dropped nearly'half a (on of grain in the past two weeks. Schlitter said he' saw a lone pheasant at one west of Russell and dropped some grain. The next day, he spotted 12 at that point. They were perked up and showing some life," he said, "But many already have starved to death and many more will unless they can get some food." Considerable snow still covers the ground throughout the area. Schlitter is donating his plane and his services.

Sportsmen are donating the grain. More than 7200 pounds of grain have been dropped in Rooks County by the county sportsmen's club, in a campaign that has been underway since' the storm first hit Feb. 26. One thousand pounds t)f milo have been dropped by Don Pratt and Bill King, both of Hays; in ravines and gullies where birds have been spotted. Pilots and farmers in the Phillipsburg and Smith Center areas have reported seeing dozens of pheasants and quails on roads and in ditches.

Farmers said the birds are seeking payed roads because of the warmth offered by the cleaned pavement. Also having a tough time in the snow are rabbits. Many have migrated to cities to eat garbage and other refuse. AUTOMOBILE FINANCING Money To Finance, Credit Co. 109 B.
