Watson also owns the Island's single-season rushing record with 1,352 yards. He's tops at Wagner for TDs in one season with 21 (20 rushing). Nicholls State, Northeastern and So. Connecticut are interested. MARCO BATTAGLIA (St Francis Prep) The only junior on the squad, Battaglia was the best tight end in the city.

Of course, it didn't hurt having the accurate Chris Stothard throwing to him. Battaglia, a sure-fire Division I prospect, had at least two catches in every game, many on big-play situations. He made 31 catches for 542 yards for a 17.5 a catch average with six touchdowns. DAN RYMER (Port Richmond) He is called "awesome" by Wagner assistant coach Mike Davino, who added: "He's a Division I player in a Division III body." A clutch receiver, Rymer had 52 receptions for 792 yards and eight TDs. Rymer also had one rushing TD for 6-4 Red Raiders.

PATRICK ORR (Brooklyn Tech) -A 6-0, 230-pound nose and offensive guard, Orr was the Engineers' leader upfront 45 tackles, three fumble recoveries (one for a TD), one blocked punt He also had eight sacks. Coach Jim DiBenedetto said of Orr, "I have not seen a better lineman in the city this year." JASON MEDIATE (Wagner) The consummate center, there were no missed exchanges between Mediate and Taranto. That's what Mike Taranto of Susan Wagner did.

He earned the Falcons' quarterback job as a sophomore, led his team to an 8-0 record on the field that year, then guided them to back-to-back 12-0 seasons and back-to-back PSAL city titles. Taranto headlines the 1989 Daily News All-City football team, the creme de la creme within the five boroughs. Here's the lineup: MIKE TARANTO (Wagner) Taranto threw for 1,079 yards and 14 TD passes and ran for another 10 10 TDs. He was 79-for-138 for 57 completion rate. Taranto set school career records in all passing categories.

A clutch performer, he threw two fourth-down TDs in 20-14 title win over Clinton. Northeastern, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Columbia and Cincinnati are looking at Taranto. DAN LiSANTI (Clinton) Mr. Human Highlight Film, LiSanti has moves and instincts that will assure him success. That and his 4.0 average in classroom.

LiSanti scored a school-record 19 TDs. He had a single-season school-record 114 points. He rushed for 873 yards and caught another 338 yards. ROGER WILLIAMS (Sheepshead Bay) Williams helped the Sharks earn the Brooklyn PSAL title, averaging 8.1 yards a carry. He rolled up 967 yards on 119 carries with nine TDs.

He also was a key receiver out of the backfield with eight catches for 141 yards. He also lead the team with 75 tackles, 26 of them solo, and had two interceptions as a linebacker. LAMONT WATSON (Wagner) A smooth runner; Watsoir now owns the- ing noseguards and middle linebackers. He was key to an offensive line that gave Taranto ample time to throw. He had 31 solos, 34 assists, two fumble recoveries and one interception as inside linebacker.

PETE ROSSOMANDO (Port Richmond) Called "the finest lineman "and all-around football player I have ever coached at Port Richmond" by coach Joe Goerge, Rossomando had 89 tackles, six sacks and one fumble recovery. He played center and middle guard; he kicked off, he kicked extra points, he snapped on all punts. MATT MANZA (Msgr. Farrell) -Farrell was best known year for its defense and Manza was one of the reasons. He had 58 solo tackles and 50 assists.

Manza also had a team-high 11 sacks and 15 hurries. He's being recruited by Holy Cross, Lehigh, Lafayette, Fordham and throughout the Ivy League. REGGIE DANFORTH (Christ the King) Coaches couldn't help but vote for this linebackertight end. He had an incredible 183 tackles 92 of them solos and 40 of them at the line or behind the line. He's being recruited by Penn State, North Carolina, Fordham, Delaware and UMass as a strong or free safety.

As the Royals TE, he caught 20 passes for 312 yards and two TDs in a loss to McKee. JAMEL BROWN (Stevenson) A fine option quarterback, Brown was even better as a safety. The 5-11, 175-pound senior had 70 tackles, six interceptions and four fumble recoveries. In a 34-6 rout of PSAL finalist Clinton, Brown had four interceptions and one fumble recovery. Offensively, Brown racked up 505 yards on 52 carries with nine touchdowns.
