Fritz enjoyed the many years he spent on his farm in the Stoughton area, raising, training, and showing his Arabian horses.

He also enjoyed his gardening and flowers on the farm. Being musically inclined, Fritz played the guitar for several musical groups in the Stoughton area as long as his health permitted. In recent years, Fritz has enjoyed everyone's company at the Eatery and Coffee Cup restaurants in Stoughton, visiting and sharing company. He is survived by his sister, Ardys (Douglas) Pfundheller of Stoughton; two nieces, Marjie Hanssen of Stoughton, and Karen (Jim) Griffin of Stoughton; a nephew, Mark Pfundheller of Edgerton; two uncles, Hegge Holtan of Vero Beach, and Oscar Sperloen of Stoughton; aunt, Pearl Spencer of Henderson, N.C.; great-nieces; great-nephews; and many cousins further survive. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov.

14, 2003, at 11 a.m. at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 310 Washington Stoughton. The Rev. Dick Halom will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.

She married William G. Hotchkiss on Sept. 12, 1931. They had no children. Gladys received a B.S.

in English and an M.S. in history from Northwestern University in Evanston, 111. She was a member of Alpha XI Delta social sorority. She taught school in Fond du Lac High School and wrote correspondence courses for the University of Wisconsin. She also tutored students at Waupun prison and wrote two English textbooks.

Gladys left this world peacefully on Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, with her faithful and loving caregiver, Sharon Borland, at her side. She was a resident at Attic Angel Place and had been an Angel for more than 40 years. She was predeceased by her parents; husband; and her only sister, Hazel Buf-fmire. Survivors include her only nephew, Robert Buffmire and wife, Judy of Merritt Island, a great-nephew, Michael Buffmire and wife, Jennifer of Jacksonville, two great-nieces, Stephanie (Buffmire) Steger and husband, Jeff, of Satellite Beach, and Kimberley (Buffmire) De Young, and husband, Roy, of Fredricks-burg, Va.

She also had two great-great-nephews, Colby and Benjamin Steger, and a great-great-niece, Victoria Buffmire. Other honorable mentions include her other caregiver, Janet Fisher; special friend, Debbie Johnson; April Fearon and Chris Thellacker (children of Judy Buffmire, and a multitude of "Angels" and friends at Attic Angel Place. Fran will be remembered by many people for her quick wit, outgoing personality and infectious smile. Dederich, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, surrounded by love with all of her children by her side, from complications due to diabetes. She was born on Aug. 3, 1927, in Irish Valley Township, the daughter of John and Cecilia (Ederer) Schutz. Lucy married Eugene Dederich on Jan.

30, 1947, and he preceded her in death in 1993. She was employed with the Sauk Prairie School District as a cook until retirement in 1996. Lucy was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. She was a wonderful cook who shared her gift with many.

Those who knew Lucy found her to be their source of strength, always giving of herself. Her time and dedication to her family was most important to her. She is survived by her children, Linda (Dick) Frey, Sandy (Al) Wilden-berg, Alyce (Jerry) Kadell, Dick (Janice), Bob (Barb), Den (Bonnie), Dan (Jane), Marie (Tim) Cairns and Doug (Paula Soukup); 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Audrey Schutz, Joanne (Robert) Behnke, Darlene Dederich and Florence Dederich; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Edward Schutz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST.

Leyson, Elaine Gladys SAUK CITY Elaine Gladys Leyson, age 87, of Sauk City, died on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital. She was born in Stevens Point on Aug. 5, 1916, the daughter of the late Ole and Ida (Olson) Larson. Prior to getting married, Elaine was employed by Hardware Mutual Insurance Company in Stevens Point and Dallas.

She was united in marriage to Waldo Leyson on July 9, 1937. The couple owned and operated the West Columbus Food Store. They resided in Columbus and Florida before moving to Sauk City seven years ago. Elaine was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Concordia United Methodist Church in Prairie du Sac.

She is survived by her husband, Wally Leyson of Sauk City; four children, Barb Salveson of Sauk City, Mary Kay Rothschild of Beaver Dam, Jeanne (Dale) Har-oldson of Prairie du Sac, and David (Nancy) Leyson of Osh-kosh; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; two nieces; and a nephew. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard; a daughter, Patricia; a brother, Irving Larson; and a sister, Maurine Hoyt. A funeral service will be held at CONCORDIA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Prairie du Sac, at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, with Pastor Jeff Virchow officiating.

Alice was born on March 18, 1919, in Stevens Point, Wis. She was united in marriage to Eugene "Jim" Mason on Oct. 4, 1941. Alice spent her life serving her family and the church as a devoted and loving wife, mother and member of the community. She was the matriarch of a very large and extended family.

Alice epitomizes the true meaning of the word wife and mother. She is survived by her husband, Eugene "Jim;" and her six children, Linda (Alan) Artru of Bellevue, Richard (Janet) Mason of Milwaukee, Mary (Bill) Carlson of Cottage Grove, Cynthia (David) Pride of Milwaukee, Robert (Teri) Mason of Bradenton, and Patrick (Pamela) Mason of Sussex. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, Rebecca, Naomi, Aaron, Alana, Rachel, Angela, Paula, Elisabeth, Jen, John, Amanda, Stephanie, Christen, Jessica, Kimberly, Kelly, Melissa and Curtis; as well as five great-grandchildren, Camille, Lillie, Jordan, Jaya and Mason. Alice is also survived by brothers, Henry Laszewski, the Rev. Richard Laszewski, Anton "Bobby" Laszewski, Stanley Laszewski and James "Jim" Laszewski; and sisters, Velma Laszewski and Theresa Morrison.

She is also survived by more than 60 nieces and nephews, whom she adored. She was preceded in death by brothers, Ambrose "Buddy" Laszewski and Joseph Laszewski; and sisters, Katherine Barnsdale and Eleanor Guidinger. A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration her faith and life will be held ST, DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 1 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 14, 2003. Father Tait Schroeder and Alice's' brother, Father Richard Laszewski, a Maryknoll missionary, will preside.

PLATTEVILLE Margaret E. Haas, age 89, of Platteville, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at her home. She was born June 12, 1914, the youngest of 10 children of John and Margaret (Funk) Lingkamp. She graduated from St.

Andrew High School in Tennyson. On June 23, 1935, she married Oscar Peter Haas at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson. He preceded her in death April 7, 1977. Margaret was a very active member of St.

Mary's Parish in Platteville, and its altar society. She was a lector and eucha-ristic minister and leader of the rosary for St. Mary's Parish. Service to others and volunteering was her way of life. She is survived by nine children, Charles (Jeanette) Haas, Rolla, Margaret (Gerald) Dors-cheid, Arena, Edith (Larry) Simons, Mukwonago, Orville (Maureen) Haas, Edinburg, Texas, Richard (Debbie) Haas, DeForest, Rose Mary Nelson, La-Crosse, Eugene (Mary Lou) Haas, Hartland, Theresa (Brian) Krusko, Baraboo, and Delores (James) Sauer, LaCrosse; 31 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Haas-Langkamp, South Beloit, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Oscar, in infancy; a son-in-law, James Nelson; seven brothers, Leo, Bill, John, Nick, Herman, Lawrence and Joseph Langkamp; and two sisters, Laura Klein and Josephine Mar-gan. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Platteville with Father Kevin Dooley officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Platteville. Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, from 4 p.m. until p.m. at the MARTIN PAGE FUNERAL HOME in Platteville, where a 4:15 p.m.

"Fritz" Holtan, age 76, died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, after a brief stay at the Skaalen Home, Stoughton. Fritz, he was affectionately known, born in Stoughton Feb. 1, 1927, a son of the late Theodore Mabel (Sperloen) Holtan. graduated from Stoughton High School in 1945; at that he entered the United States military service With the Army Air Force, stationed overseas with the occupation force, his discharge in 1947.

For years, prior to his retirement 1989, ne was employed by National Bank in Stoughton, retiring as a cashier. He was lifelong member of First Lu- jj be Matts, Shirley Mae MADISON Shirley Mae Matts, age 70, of Madison, died on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003. She was born the daughter of Lewis and Emma (Johnson) Larson on Aug. 10, 1933, at home in De-Forest, in the town of Bristol, Wis.

Shirley married Robert J. Matts in Madison on Dec. 12, 1952. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1998. Shirley and Robert raised their family in Madison and then moved to Phoenix, where they owned and operated a janitorial service for 14 years before retiring to Madison in 1993.

Shirley is survived by her children, Susan (Greg) Kornely of Marinette, Sherrie (Roger) Vol-brecht of Monroe, and Robert Matts Jr. of Tempe, her grandchildren, Jonathan, Katharine, Margaret and Rosalyn Kornely, Lisa and Jessica Peck, and Misty Jo and Joseph Matts; a sister, Lizabeth (Baltz) Hosely of Madison; and her sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Stanley, Earl, Burt, Paul, Kenneth, Warren and Donald Larson. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov.

14, 2003, at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, with the Rev. Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Meriter Park Hospital. Mom was very courageous and maintained a sense of humor throughout her difficult illness. Her daughters and sons-in-law wish to thank the nurses, physicians and staff of Meriter Park Hospital of Madison for the care and compassion that was given to their mother. He was born on July 16, 1948, in Chicago, 111. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a Vietnam veteran. He was owner of Oberg Mechanical Madison. John is survived by his wife, Jutta; his mother, Dorthea of Indianapolis, four sisters, Joan (Ken) Peterson of Indianapolis, Judy (Dion) Mannen of Prescott, Linda (David) Cook of Buffalo Grove, 111., and Christine Oberg of Waukegan, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, John V. Oberg; and his godson, James Reid Fuenfle. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, followed by military rites conducted by Madison Veteran's firing squad.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service. Gunderson East Funeral Home (608) 221-5420 $200 off for f- i Patchett, Milton A. COLUMBUSWAUWATOSA -Milton A. Patchett age 90, a longtime educator died on Tuesday Nov. 11, 2003, in Wauwa-tosa, Wis.

He was born on Feb. 14, 1913, in Fairwater, the only child of Arthur and Alma (Briese) Patchett. He attended Ripon College, graduating cum laude. He also earned a masters degree in administration at UW-Madison. In 1935, he began his career in education at Adams Friendship High School where he taught biology and organized the first high school band in the history of the school.

It was here that Milt met Margaret Mortenson, a fellow teacher who became his wife in 1938. After a brief tenure in Mauston, he was offered a position in Seymour, and was elevated to the position of principal. In 1955, he became district administrator of the Columbus, Wisconsin School District retiring in 1976. Milt was a member of the Olivet Congregational United Church of Christ in Columbus, where he served in many capacities and was church organist for many years. Milt is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Margaret of Wauwatosa; their three children Nancy (Richard) Andrews of Longview, Texas, Bill (Linda) Patchett of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Mary (Richard) Hamill of Wauwatosa; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday Nov. 15, 2003, at the OLIVET CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST. Pastor Lee Zortman will officiate. Interment will be in Hillside Cemeterv, Columbus. Friends may call from 11 a.m.

until the time of service at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to the National Parkinson Foundation or the Olivet Congregational United Church of Christ memorial fund. Jones-Jensen Funeral Home Columbus (920) 623-5850 Roelke, Michael Philip "Whitey" SAUK PRAIRIE Michael Philip "Whitey" Roelke, age 16, of Prairie du Sac, died on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003 at his home surrounded by his family and girlfriend after battling cancer courageously. He was born on Nov.

13, 1986, in Madison, the son of Dennis and Carlene (Baumgartner) Roelke. Michael was a good student and was currently a member of Sauk Prairie High School, class of 2005, and was a drummer in the high school band. He was a member of Concordia United Methodist Church. Michael enjoyed computer games, PlayStation and Magic The Gathering cards. He is survived by his parents, Dennis and Carlene Roelke of Prairie du Sac; a sister, Katie Roelke of Sauk City, a brother, Andy Roelke of Prairie du Sac; his girlfriend, Heather Ha-sheider; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Lester and Anne Roellie and Robert and Gladys Baumgartner; and an aunt, Pat Baumgartner Hess. A funeral service will be held at the RIVER ARTS CENTER at SAUK PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, with Pastor Jeff Virchow officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie du Sac Cemetery.

Friends may call at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, 2003. In lieu of flowers, it was Michael's wish that memorials be directed to the Silver Lining Foundation (a camp for teens with a life-threatening illness) or the Make- -A-Wish Foundation.
