Soap Box Derby To Be Oct. 9 Speed-minded boys will drive lotne-built racing cars Oct. 9 in Salina's 4th annual Soap Box Derby. Rules for the construction of the pushmobiles. are available now at Jhe recreation commission's city hall offices.

Recreation Director Dave Zook urges boys who plan to enter the race to register early. Boys from 11 through 13 years old are eligible to enter cars in the race. At Country Club The course will be laid out on Country Club Road running down ill east from Marymount Road. A special feature of the day will be a motor-driven car race. Zoolc said many Salina youngsters have built cars powered by washing machine or lawn mower engines.

These cars may be entered in an exhibition race. But, said Zoot, the power cars will race uphill. "That's to keep them from going too fist," Zook said. The regular Derby includes two classes, with cars costing $15 or less in Class A and the no-cost-limit cars in Class AA. The first race is.set for 9 am.
