PAGE SIX THE BISBEE DAILY REVIEW, BIS BEE, ARIZONA, WEDNESDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 4, 1905. YUMA EXPECTS TO BE A GREAT SEAPORT Engineers Not Able to Stop How of Colorado River The California Development Company Is putting forth the most strenuous efforts to stop the Mexican Intake, and again turn the Colorado down its regular channel to the Gulf of California, says the Yuma Sun. Sev eral rebuffs have been met with, and the original plan of the engineers has been abandoned as Impracticable and unfeasible, but the claim is still put forth with an increasing degree of Insistence that the intake will be stopped. It is a significant fact, however, and worthy of more than passing consid eration, that almost, if not quite all of tho old-timers about Yuma, many of them river men who have studied the flow of tho Colorado and its peculiarities for more years than one has fingers and toes, are more than skeptical concerning the final outcome of the efforts of tho Development! Company's engineers. Such old-timers and experienced river men as Captain Isaac Folhamus, O.

P. Townsend and others, express the strong belief that the time has gone by when the flow of the Colorado could have been diverted back into the old channel. Their belief is backed by the fact and a most important fact It is that the channel has now been cut so deep, giving the water a very rapid fall, that it will be impossible by any process of engineering, in view of the circumstance that the bed of the channel is nothing but shifting quicksand, to construct a gate or build a dam which will stop the flow of the river long enough and raise it high enough to turn It down the old channel, which is very much higher than the bel of the river above the Intake or In the intake. In the meantime Saltan Sea is grow ing steadily, and the belief is gaining adherents by the score that It has come to stay, and that in the course of from ten to twenty years, accord ing to the flow of tho Colorado, all that portion of California lying below tho level of the sea will become a part of it, and Yuma will be, not quite, but nearly a seaport. Before starting round the world Mf.

Bryan should appoint a good man to "watch Mayor McClellan." There are altogether too many accidents 'in Chicago. Somebody should speak to the street car companies about it. SCIENCE PREVENTS BALDNESS. i NOGALES CAPTURE MAY BE RUIZ Was Arrested by Rangers in The Line City May Prove Much Wanted Man Douglas. Oct. 3. (Special.) There seems to be some doubt as to whether the Ruiz, the alleged murderer of William Long, has been arrested or not. It now turns out that the Mexican arrested by the rangers at Nogales is Manuel Rivera, who is wanted on a charge of horse stealing in Pima county, as well as in Cochise and Santa Cruz counties.

Rivera, it is stated, is also wanted in Altar, So-nora, for murder. He was convicted in 1904 for the crime of murder and was sentenced to serve fifteen years, "but broke jail soon after receiving his sentence, and has since been engaged in all kinds of violations of the law. He made his boasts that he would never bo captured alive, but when Olds of the rangers pulled down on him with a Winchester and ordered him to throw up his hands, the Mexican's hands went up. How Rivera's name became mixed with the Long murder the sheriff's office is at a loss to understand. The first word from the rangers was to the effect that they had Ruiz and that he was in the county jail at Nogales; how ever, when Sheriff Hunt wired to Sheriff Fowler asking whether he had Ruiz in custody, he received a reply stating that he had not.

Whether Ruiz and Rivera are one and tho same man remains to be seen. It is prob able that some one who knows Ruiz will be sent to Nogales to see Rivera and settle the question. Yesterday Jeff Long, a brother of William Long, was in the city and called at the sheriff's office to invest! gate the report of the arrest of Ruiz, and was very much disappointed when he learned that there was some doubt as to the murderer of his brother being captured. He will go to Nogales and endeavor to learn more particulars. Mr.

Long stated that he Intended to remain in this country until Ruiz, the murderer of his brother, is placed behind the bars, if it takes the balance of his life. He has already spent a number of years in this country endeavoring to locate the Mexican. Prospector. SHERIFF'S SALE.
