"WE'RE VERY excited about the 19th annual Bogie Busters in Dayton," said Jerry Kirby, chairman of Citizens Federal Savings and Loan and president of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, who also serves on the Bogie Busters board of directors.

"If you look down the list of political leaders, military leaders and business leaders, that could bode well for the future development of Dayton." Bogie Busters golf will begin at 11 a.m. June 9 and at 9:30 a.m. June 10 at NCR Country Club. Theresa Buerschen. associate director of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, said that group also "did not receive any formal notification" that it would not benefit from Bogie Busters this year. THE GROUP LEARNED of the change when some of its supporters received letters asking for contributions for this year's souvenir program, with no mention of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

China's Red Cross Society, founded in 1904, has more thaa 23.000 local branches and a membership of 1.5 million, said the report in the English-language newspaper. It quoted a Red Cross official saying China can sympathize with Africa because of China's natural disasters in the put. The government donated 120,000 metric tons of grain to drought areu lut year, and another 50,000 tons is pledged for the first half of 1984, the report said.

It also reported the All-China Federation of Trade Unions hu promised to provide about $525,000 worth of grain to the drought areu. bitter about Sibbing's candidacy. "I think we ran a good race on our own and I'm not going to call anyone a spoiler," the said. "1 THOUGHT WE did i pretty good job with all the weaknesses we had. being a newcomer and not having name recognition," Johnson added.

"And I think it does shoWNj'U have some future." Three other candidates in the special election divided the remaining 7 percent of the vote. Vivian B. Walton, an enthusiastic promoter of the city, collected 831 votes or 3.56 percent while ex-firefighter John Edwards received 648 votes 2.78 percent and Dr. Aherene Dungey, a former University of Cincinnati professor, won 1.49 percent 349 votes. Orick, who served on the commission from 1979 until his defeat by Mark Henry in the 1983 fall elections, said he expects to take office in about 10 days, once Tuesday's vote totals are certified by the board of elections.

Patterson Park and Belmont West neighborhoods gave Orick 1,032 votes while Sibbing only collected 354 votes and Johnson 61 votes. Ward 20 the Belmont East and Newcomb North-Eastmont neighborhoods and the heart of Orick country gave Orick 987 votes, Sibbing 196 votes and Johnson 56 votes. But Johnson, a black helped out by a barrage of radio ads featuring state Rep. C.J. McLin and directed at black voters, had equally impressive vote totals in the city's predominantly black wards.

In Ward 19 in southwest Dayton, Johnson collected 868 votes to only 67 votes for Sibbing and 36 votes for Orick. In Ward 13, the city's inner west neighborhood, Johnson received 600 votes to 52 votes for Sibbing and only 29 votes for Orick. The only ward Sibbing carried, Ward 4 in the city's Lower Riverdale neighborhood, only had a 21 percent turnout, giving Sibbing 337 votes, Orick 288 votes and Johnson 120 votes. "BELMONT TURNED out high. Turnout was good in West Dayton, but they had a low turnout in the Dayton View area," Jeff Jacobson, Orick's campaign manager, said afterward.

"Basically, Sibbing's voters stayed home." Sibbing, however, contends she lost because she tried to run "a citywide campaign." "It's a little scary to me that this from either the east or west part of town." Sibbing said, adding that the expected to run stronger "but I just couldn't compete with the Democrats' money." Montgomery County Democratic Party Chairman Joe Shump, who throughout the campaign has warned that Sibbing was a "spoiler" who would only split Democratic votes and help Orick's election chances, had "I told you so" written all over him Tuesday night. "I've said all along that a vote for Susan Sibbing wu a vote for Abner Orick," Shump said. "And the proof of the pudding is in and we're eating it tonight." BUT SHUMP SAID Johnson coordinator of the Center for Afro-American Affairs at the University of Dayton had run an "outstanding" campaign. "There's certainly a future for her (In the party)," he said. But not for Sibbing, Shump made it clear.

"Who's she?" he said when asked if Sibbing had the same kind of party future. Sibbing, however, said she was amused that both Shump and Orick were calling her the "spoiler" in the election. "When both sides are calling you names, I figure I did OK," she said. "They all would have liked to see me disappear from the face of the Earth." "I'm guessing the Democrats probably won't ask me to run for the State-house in November," Sibbing added with a laugh. "So, I plan to remain on the (school) board and I'll work hard." "The leader of an educational institution does nobody a service if he or she can't put together the resources (to make the institution strong)," Mulhollan said.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT also is necessary, he said, noting that he is a member of the board of the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, the board of the Arizona Museum of Science and Technology, and the community advisory board of the local Junior League. Yet even while juggling those varied duties duties that create for him 10-hour work days at ASU Mulhollan insists he'll be a well-known figure on campus. Some students and faculty members have said Kegerreis doesn't spend enough time on campus. "I'll not be invisible," Mulhollan said. "I don't care how much work I've got outside, I'll make sure people on campus know me.

If it takes more hours, I'll find more hours. "I'm not sure I could know the first names of 600 faculty members, but I'm sure going to try," he said with a grin. A university administrator for 15 years, (he also has held administrative posts at the University of Oklahoma and Kansas State University) Mulhollan said he doesn't know enough about Wright State to set goals for the 20-year-old institution yet. But so far he doesn't plan any major changes. "I have no intention of fixing things that ain't broke," he said.

"I perceive that the university is in good condition." Mulhollan, an avid jogger and sailor, describes himself as an avid worker who's not timid about doing what needs to be done. "I'm a very intense worker and I try to do my homework on every Issue. That amounts to accumulating as much information from as many people as possible," said Mulhollan, who did similar work when he interviewed members of former President Lyndon B. Johnson's foreign policy committee for an oral history collection for the National Archives. "On the other hand, by the time a decision gets to a central administrator there usually Is more than one point of view held by faculty," he said.

Currently executive vice president at Arizona State University in Tempe and chief operating officer for ASU West, Mulhollan was chosen for the job by Wright State trustees Monday. A trim and tanned man with a boyish face, Mulhollan talked about his new job Tuesday, in between visits with relatives here. Tonight he and his wife, Mary Bess, are to fly to Dayton to visit Wright State Thursday and Friday. HIS ROOTS ARE in the northwest corner of this rural state of Arkansas, a state in which his great grandfather served as governor and U.S.

senator. A subtle, southern drawl marks Mulhollan's speech as he talks about ASU and WSU. Although ASU is larger than Wright State (it has about 40,000 students compared to WSU's the two share many common characteristics, he said. Both are in urban areas and serve many part-time students who are employed full time and who are older than traditional college And both public institutions are closely tied to the economic interests of the community, particularly in "hightech" fields. High-tech is important at ASU, at least in part because of the Engineering Excellence program Mulhollan shepherded there.

Through the five-year program, which ends in June, ASU strengthened its engineering, science and high tech programs with help from leaders in the field and community after determining those programs would serve the area's future needs. ASU leaders and others helped raise more than $40 million to fund the improvements, he said. MULHOLLAN ALSO HAS demonstrated an ability to deal with state legislators while lobbying for the school, an ability that helped win him favor with the WSU board. At ASU, the chief legislative relations duties fall to Mulhollan, who said he spends hours at the capitol testifying at budget hearings and conferring with lawmakers. Those legislative duties can't be separated from the job of an effective president, said Mulhollan, who chose a higher education career after an unfulfilling ttint at the family wholesale furniture business in Tulsa, Ok.
