Sveum, in turn, announced that Robin Yount will return to the club as the bench coach, replacing Ted Simmons, who has been moved into what the club termed an "advisory" scouting position. Sveum said he wants Yost's firing to "send a shock wave through this team." "We're hoping there is a shock reaction so they can perform at their best level," Sveum said. With only 12 games left and the wild card playoff berth stttl out there to be won or lost, firing Yost was a move the Brewers simply had to make if they wanted to have any chance to save the season. Even a relative baseball novice like Attanasio knows that changing managers on a contending team with two weeks left in the season isn't standard procedure.

However, these aren't normal times in Milwaukee. Attanasio went all-in when he traded a sizable chunk of the team's future for pitcher CC Sabathia in early Jury. The firing of Yost was merely a continuation of the now-or- never approach adopted by Attanasio the minute he OlCd Please see OATES, Page B2 2003 68-94 .420 6th 2004 67-94 .416 6th 2005 81-81 .500 3rd 2006" 75-87 .463 4th 2007; 83-79 .512 2nd 2008 83-67 .553 Totals 457-502 .477 NL CENTRAL RACE i I 1 1 i 1 2 Cubs 90-58 Brewers 83-67 (-8) Astros 80-69 (-lO'i) 3,0 WILD CARD RACE Associated Press archives Brewers 83-67 Phillies 83-67 Astros 80-69 (-2'2) 1 1 tfk 3D "I don't have the answers," Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said Monday, "and Ned didn't have the answers.
