McGowan is among the Bisbee attorneys who will appear before the District Court at Tombstone today. E. B. Moore, of the Alsacla Mining company, left for that camp yesterday morning, where he will remain for a few days. Deputy Collector of Customs Wright, of Naco, was a visitor in Bisbee yesterday.

Mr. Wright is one of tie most vigilant officers along the border, and is keeping the smugglers under close watch. Jos. Holman, an employe of the Mitchell Development company, in the Huachucas, is lisltlng in town for a few days. He reports the camp in prosperous condition and development work progressing satisfactorily.

Graham president of the Lucky Tiger Combination Gold Mining company, returned to Douglas last evening from a trip to Parral, Sonora, where he had been to inspect some mining machinery which is for sale at that point. Good Improvement. Street Superintendent KJriegbaum, together with his street force, is making some good improvements in the road near Jacks Lumber company, a dangerous place in the highway having been Jeveled and the road widened at that point. Lawyers Off for Tombstone. Several Bisbee attorneys left for the county seat on yesterday.

Among the legal lights were Messrs. Baker, McGowan, Neale and Bennet. Mr. Ben-net represents C. W.

Hicks in the mandamus suit brought by Burton and Snodgrass, and their interests are being looked after by Judge Baker. Retrenchment Is the Word. The Southwestern, in line with the other railroads of the west and southwest, is said to have undertaken a policy of retrenchment until the beginning of tne next fiscal year, July 1. After that time many improvements are expected, the most important, according to rumor, is that of the extension to San Diego, California. Hunting Witnesses.

Deputy Sheriff Porter McDonald came over from Tombstone yesterday. Mr. McDonald states that Tuesday was the most disagreeable day In the history of Tombstone. At times the dust wa3 so blinding that the town was in. darkness.

Mr. McDonald was here to obtain witnesses to appear be-for the District Court. Mr. McDonald will return to Tombstone this morning. A Colored Haul.

Tuesday night Constable Doyle brought back to Bisbee several negroes, mew and women, who were Im plicated In getting away with a livery rig hired at one of the Bisbee sta bles. The negroes drove to Douglas after getting the rig to drive only a I short distance. They treated the team and conveyance badly. One of the negroes brought the rig hack to Bisbee and wa3 arrested here. The remainder of the crowd was -rounded ap in Douglas.

Ready for Occupancy. The new building In Brewery Gulch lr about completed. The cement floors on the lower, story and sidewalk waa finished yesterday. The lower floor is being fitted for a saloon and cafe. Train Dispatcher Resigns.

office at Douglas, has resigned his position and been suc ceeded by Charles J. Harvey, who comes from Denver. Change of Date. The regular Saturday night hop at the Opera House will be held this week on Friday evening Instead of Saturday, on account of tho Floto shows being here on that evening. Remember Friday night is the date.

A New Track. The El Paso Southwestern has changed its plans for getting Into and out of the union depot at El Paso with Its- pasaongef: trains. It had been the intention, until recently, to como into the depot from a switch Just west of tho S. P. crossing, but that idea has been changed somewhat and a new main line for passenger business is cow being constructed, The Building Boom.

There Is no abatement in the build ing boom in Bisbee. Within a radius of one hundred yards from Castle Rock no less than a dozen new cottages are in course of construction. Wherever powder and pick can excavate a site in the hillside a new build ing is being erected. At present there is at least fifty new buildings under way in Bisbee and environs. Visiting in Town.

Captain and Mrs. Haskell, of Ba- coachl, Sonora, are visiting In Bisbee for a few days. The Captain is tho owner of some promising gold prospects at Bacoachl. He also owns a claim adjoining tho famous Esperan-za mine, the property of the Phelps- Dodge company. Great activity is apparent In all lines in that district reports Mr.

Haskell. Excursion Tickets. Tickets will be sold on the E. P. S.

W. for the coming K. P. dedication at one and one-third fare. Full fare Is to be paid by the excursionist, and upon presentation of a receipt from tho keeper of records and seals at Bisbee to the railroad office at Bisbee the rebate will be given.

The tickets are good from the 3rd to the Cth of April. Masquerade at the Gym. The masquerade ball -given at the Gym. yesterday evening was a delightful affair. A number of amusing characters were on the floor representing every phase of life, from 'the grave to' tho rlaicntons.

At eleven o'clock the dancers unmasked, and spectators were allowed! the prlvll- edge'of tho floor until 12, when the dance was stopped. A flashlight pic ture of the merry maskers was then taken, and all went home well pleased with the evening. Work Under Way. Work upon the new shaft of the Copper Queen company at Sacramento Hill, in the Lowell district, is tEoT-oughly under way. A large force is being employed in excavating for the engine and shaft house sites.

U'ne excavation is being made In the sol-Id rock In order to secure a firm foundation for the machinery to be employed. Sinking for the new shaft will be commenced in about two weeks, and it will be sunk to a depth of at least a thousand feet. The work will require more than a year. Society Event at Tombstone. A farewell dance was had at the Gage Hall last evening in honor of Miss Minnie Daly, who has been visiting in Tombstone for some months past, the guest of her aunt, Mrs.

Raf-ferty, says tho Prospector. Miss Daly, who is one of California's fair daughters, has made many friends in Tombstone during her stay and evidence of her popularity as a social favorite was attested in the large attendance in her honor last evening. Miss Daly left today for her home at Ventura, California, after an enjoyable stay in Tombstone. -o Deeds Real Estate. E.

Overlook and Fred Coleman have purchased the Shattuck lumber yard. William Seattle 'was in yesterday from his ranch in Sulphur Springs valley. Mr. Beattie says there will be heuvy cattle losses in his section unless rains come soon. Mrs.

W. Halderman arrived from Cochise station last week and will be one of the miner force. Carl Clausen has gone to Cananea on mining business. E. B.

Moore has gone to the Alsacla. Wlllard Wright of the customs service was In the city yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bose of Brewery gulch have returned from a visit to the home of Mr.

Bose's parents at Black Diamond. O. H. Melhagen and son have recovered from their injuries and are able to be out. Mrs.

G. H. Campbell, wife of the Wells-Fargo agent, has returned irora an extended trip to Tucson. Jim Phillips and wife of Cananea are in Bisbee, and are trying to locate In business. Frank Ray is crippled with rheumatism, and may be compelled to go to Hot Springs for relief.
