OIL LAND REPORT GOES TO HOUSE Conferees Agree After Long Deadlock Over Proposed Legislation Washington. Feb. 3. Three months of bickering and an almost unbreakable deadlock on the oil land leasing bill were ended late yesterday through agreement by House and Senate conferees on the legislation. Senator Smoot (Republican), Uiah, chairman of the Senate managers, announced the conference report would be submitted to the Hquso to day and an effort made to obtain immediate consideration.

Caruso, U. S. Aviator Sues Parisian Wife Xew York, Feb. 3. William F.

Caruso, formerly a second lieutenant in the United States Aviation Service and now connected with a scales manufacturing establishment in this city, began suit in the Supreme Court here against Eenee Boisseau, of Brussels! Belgium, asking for a divorce upon statutory grounds. Lieutenant Caruso says that he and Miss Boisseau were married on December 4, 1918, while he was in Paris. She was then only 16 years old. Alter he returned from Nice, France, he found that she had deserted him and had been seen frequenting boulevard cafes in Paris with a young man she called "Jean." The aviator said that he was about to start suit in Paris, but the attorneys he consulted there told him that a correspondent named Jean would be about as hard to find in Paris as one named John Smith would be in America. So he gave up in disgust trying to get a divorce in France.

S. As Samuel Sterling lay dying from pneumonia upon his bed his mother and sisters screamed and wept, and the attention of passersby was attracted. As t'e front door was open, a number of persons entered the house and went upstairs to see what the trouble was, and to render any aid that might be called for. When they entered the sick room, they saw that Sterling was dying and took their departure. One of them, however, a stout man of about 24 years of age, grabbed the dying man's watch and chain, from the bureau beside the deathbed and running from th house made his escape.

Sterling died a few moments later. Beer Drinking Cat Stops at Willemsted Xew York, Feb. 3. Zulia, the well known beer drinking cat which belonged to the Red line steamship Maracaibo, did not return on the ship yesterday when the Maracaibo got in from Venezuela and West In dian ports. Zulia left the ship flat at Willem stad, Curacoa, having been won away, it is said, by a sample of Amsterdam beer.

She found the surroundings so attractive, according to Purser Gullfoyle and Chief Steward Simpson, both of whom being' duly sworn, that she could not be induced to return to the ship. 3. W. H. Woodin, president of the American Car and Foundry Company, announced the purchase by the company of substantial interests in the Canadian Car and Foundry Company. When asked if it was possible for foreign railroad equipment manufacturers to compete with American manufacturers at some later date, Mr.

Woodin said there was little or no possibility of foreign manufac turs being able to compete for business in the United States. Nineteen Rescued When House Burns Philadelphia, Feb. 8. Nineteen men, women and children, clad only in their nightclothcs, were rescued by firemen ana ponce irom a ourn ing building early yesterday. General Ian Hamilton to day in a letter to the Times declared himself opposed to punishment of Field Marshal Liman von Sanders, German commander of the Turkish armies. On publication here of Paris dispatches which named von Sanders as one of the German Field Marshals whose surrender for trial by Allied tribunals is demanded General Hamilton wrote: "I feel sure I speak for the troops who fought at the Dardanelles when I say they don't wish to see him tried.

Passport fees would be increased to $10 and the charge for viseing of alien passports to four dollars after May under a bill introduced by Representative Porter. Republican. H. Newton, chief constable at Winnipeg, notified police to day that he had found the missing girl and that she admitted her identity.
