Then Friday afternoon, the survivors bowl single game matches with the loser out and the winner being assured at least $300.

From then on Its one game and out. The final match will be bowled on Sunday at approximately 1:30 p.m. Larry Barwick of Florida has won the tournament the past two years picking up $40,000 each time. If you are a guy and you have a brother who bowls you may want to enter the 63rd annual Brothers Bowling tournament which runs from Dec. 21 to Feb.

"We have sent all the information on to Milwaukee," he states, "and everything is back to normal again." Some of the more competitive bowlers in our area do their bowling from a wheel chair. The Bowlers Victory Legion, which was organized in 1942, provides money for bowling facilities and recreation programs for veterans. In the 43 years it has been in existence, -more than $11,000,000 has been donated by the nation's bowlers.

Each year the BVL holds tournaments for the various Veteran's hospitals and each year Dayton makes an excellent showing. In the division for large veteran hospitals (over 1000 patients) the Dayton ambulatory bowlers team finished in first place in the country, beating out a Milwaukee team by 368 pins. The team members were Jack Burch, Ed Huem-mer, Wes Shaffer, Charles Bauer, J. B. Moss with alternates Homer Bostic, Ed Bourdo and Yahya Ghaniyy.

In the division for wheelchair bowlers, the Dayton team finished second for the second year in a row. The Dayton team was only 83 pins behind Brockton, Ma. Team members are Herb Laundy, Marie Fergson, Earl Jackson, Willie Ownsby, John Choquet and alternates Norm Tanis, Este Hall and Ruby Mitchell. There are six bowling lanes at the VA Hospital on W. Third Street.

The feisty New Yorker withdrew from the last three tournaments he was scheduled to play in Australia. Wilander, meanwhile, expects to find his path to the final tough. "Lendl and Becker have both improved tremendously and will be hard to beat on grass," he said. Becker, who turned 18 last week, reached the quarterfinals of the 1984 Open. Others who could pose a threat include Curren, big-serving American Tim Mayotte and two-time champion Johan Kriek.

Most of the those entered, Including Wilander and Lendl, warmed qp for the Open by competing in a four-day indoor exhibition tournament at Canberra. Most of the top women have been competing In grass-court tournaments in Brisbane and Sydney. The one notable exception was Lloyd, who was practicing in Kooyong. Her longtime rival, Martina Navratilova, however, played in both grass tournaments. She has competed only one other time since losing the U.S.

The 21-year-old Wilander, this year's French Open winner, buried the notion that he was a winner only on slow courts with successive victories on the fast Australian grass. He defeated both John McEnroe and Ivan Lendl of Czechoslovakia to win in 1983 and beat Kevin Curren in last year's final. If he wins three in a row, Wilander would become only the third player to do so.

Jack Crawford won the Open from 1931-1933, and Roy Emerson won five in a row, starting in 1963.
