The church is coming on nicely under his leadership. Mrs. Mary Devoe and Mrs. Sarah Pelham are spending August, in Maine. Mrs.

Mrs. Annie Davis Gunn, accompanied by Mrs. Mollie C. Aiken of Danville, are guests of her cousin. Mrs.

Sarah D. Crudup of 155 Waverly street. They are planning to visit Xewburg, Boston and other eastern cities before return in south. The Metropolitan A. M.

E. Zion Church was blessed last Sunday in having the best service we have witnessed under the pastorate of the Rev. Edward J. Hawkes. The morning service was crowded with members, friends and visitors.

Five A. M. E. Zion members were present from Xorth. three from Michigan The pastor preached as never before.

There was a great, outpouring of tfhe Holy Spirit. At 1 m. fifty children greeted the assistant superintendent, teachers and officers. The study of the lesson was heartily entered into. The visitors class is a great asset to the school.

The efficient superintendent handles this class. As usual, Madam Slade and Mrs. Roina Hawkes presented a fine program at the Lyceum at 5 p. m. Some of the best talent of Xew York City appears each Sunday at this meeting.

Mrs. Hjzle Banks is doing yeoman service with the dhildren' at the Christian Endeavor. Rey. Bookman preached at the evening service, giving a splendid sermon on prayer. It was good to see Trustee Edward Smith and his talented wife with their chidlren take their seats in their pew; at the morning service.

Mr. Smith is one of the most progressive men in our communiy being a large contratctor, and own ling one of the most beautiful homes in our city. The Metropolitan Sunday School carried a large 'enthusiastic crowd on their annual outing to Croton rark last Thursday. The pastor, superintendent, assistant superintendent of primary department had charge of picnic. Sundav schools were present from all over the county and it was indeed a great union of Sunday schools.

The sight was inspiring. Mr. and Mrs. John Fields of Runyan avenue have almost completed another fine house for occupancy. The Fields are cultured people, always filling their pew at the church at every, William Skinner, one of the most loyal; and one of the oldest members of the church, seems to be in poor health just now.

Mrs. Perinchief, one of the church's staunch friends, never misses a session of the Sunday school, always bringing an automobile full of children with her. Each Sunday the altar is filled with cut flowers through her kindness. The choir of Metropolitan Church deserves great credit, never missing a service through the hot weather. The pastor and trustees already planned a greater Metropoi tan Church.

J. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stevens were unable to attend the funeral of. Mrs.

Stevens' uncle, Harry Thomas, on Monday, August 6, because of other very pressing business. However, they motored over August 5, with Mrs. Stevens' brother and sister in law, Mr. and Mrs. H.

Ford, and assisted in making the funeral arrangements. At the regular meeting of Mohawk Lodge of Elks Tuesday eve ning. August 7, the final report of the Elks State Convention was giv en by Dr. C. G.

Hobson, past ex sited ruler; and chairman of the committee which worked so' faith hilly to make the convention a suc cess. The report was not only accepted but a rising vote of. thanks was given Dr. Hobson and his com mittee. Exalted Ruler Aubrey Lam bert, ir presided.
