Gunderson Funeral Home 5203 Monona Drive (608) 221-5420 Kennedy, Ki Michael WAUNAKEE Ki Michael Kennedy, son of Mike and Melanie Kennedy of Waunakee, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2003, at Milwaukee Children's Hospital. He had a brother, and a sister, Mia. He is also survived by his grandparents, Mary Ellen and Morris Holes, and Tom and Bev Kennedy. Although Ki's life lasted only two weeks, he will be remembered for a lifetime. Through his courageous battles, he reminded us that each moment together is precious.

Though nothing can ease the pain of his passing, the hours we spent with him, the nights of worry and days of hope, made us take inventory of our lives again, and showed what is important in our time here. Through Ki, we found love not only in our families, but in all those who said a prayer for him, thought of him, or helped us in some way. His time was too short, but it created an immense amount of love for which no words can do justice. Each day we will think of him, he will inspire us in each difficulty we face, and our lives will be forever changed and blessed be-, cause of him. A private funeral service will be held and burial will take place in St.

Born Jan. 8, 1913, in Hollendale, Bernice was a woman with relentless inquisitiveness, and a love of personal relationships. Her relationships involved many circles of people. Family was the most important part of her life. She was wed to George Lightbourn, the love of her life, for 52 years.

Bernice was mother to five children, Stephen (Colleen) of Eau Clair, Kathie (Greg) Bewick of Glen Ellyn, Laura (Jim) Mueller, George (Kathy), and Mary Therese, all of Madison; eight grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. She taught all of us to live full and satisfying lives. Bernice taught school beginning in a one-room school in Lafayette County in 1932, and continued teaching at Doty, Marquette, Frank Allis, and Sennett schools in Madison until her retirement in 1978. She inspired her students to always do their best and never lose their curiosity. Nothing made her happier than the many adults who told her how her teaching had changed their lives.

The Catholic Church was central to her life. Bernice and George were charter members of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monona. For Bernice, religion was an all day, every day event. She was an example of how faith can enhance the quality of each of our lives and the lives of those around us. She especially wanted to encourage her church hierarchy to fully involve women in all aspects of the religion.

Upon retirement from teaching, Bernice became active in many other circles. She founded WOGS (women of God), a group of eight women who share their faith with one another. She helped establish the SHARE Ministry at IHM to attend to the spiritual needs of the homebound so that they might enjoy God as she did. She also helped found the Oakwood Hospitality Committee to greet outside groups to Oakwood the same way she always greeted outsiders to her home. Bernice truly enjoyed a game of bridge.

She made many of her best lifelong friends in the bridge clubs to which she belonged in Monona, and later at Oakwood. An aspiring Life Master player, Bernice could prove ruthless in counting cards and collecting master points. For Bernice, doin's She nothing golfed, was never volunteered an op- for everything, somehow avoided drowning as a member of the "gray bobbers" and was recently learning to master Tai Chi. She also loved and supported anything Irish. Yet, it was the individual relationships that Bernice truly treasured.

She was one of those rarities who related to people of all ages and in- rial service will be held at her graveside in California at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the HospiceCare Center at 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711, in honor of the Hospice nurses.
