He succeeded the Most Rev. Edmund F. Gibbons as head Bishop Scully of the diocese of 421,000 catholics. -He was born Aug. 6, 1894, in New York City and was ordained a priest on Sept.

22, 1919. He was pastor of St. Mary's parish in Troy for nine years and was consecrated bishop co-adjustor of Albany Oct. 24, 1945. He was a brother of Frank Loesser, composer, whose credits include "Most Happy Fella," "Guys and Dolls," and "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." Arthur Loesser, a native of New York, had given solo performances with the New York Philharmonic, Minneapolis Symphony, the Cincinnati Symphony and other leading orchestras. MRS.

TT MONTAGUE PHILLIPS London, Jan. 5 (UPI) Monta- rue Fawcett Phillips, 83, com poser and professor of music at the Royal Academy of Music died today.

Phillips composed numerous overtures and choral, chamber and operatic works, and more than 150 songs. Best known of his compositions is the Boadicea overture, which he wrote at the age of 22 Death Notices Death.
