Finkelstein's photograph, showing New York City Mayor Lindsay and two other men in a nearly deserted subway car, also won first place in the human interest category. James Laragy of the Rochester Times-Union, who placed second in that category, won first prize in sports photography. In the lower house in Albany, he was chairman of' the City Affairs Committee and WAS a member of the Rules Committee. Among the measures Crews sponsored was one giving city firemen an eight-hour day, and another enabling municipal workers to retire at 55.

He also cosponsored all major labor legislation which passed the Assembly during his tenure. Alternate Delegate Crews had been named an alternate delegate to next week's Republican National Convention, but he declined to serve. His brother will be a delegate at the GOP conclave. Through the years, Crews was active in many civic, charitable and community organizations.
