KABC-TV Iff Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international neivs services and the nation's press. FIRST OFF NBC's new financial cable service, the Consumer News nd Business Channel, has announced it has signed deals with two major cable companies that will give it more than 2 million subscribers. NBC's business-news venture, due to start operation on April 15, said the companies are Cox Cable Communications of Atlanta and Cablevision Systems Corp. in the suburban New York city of Woodbury. CNBC, which already has a deal with Telecommunications Inc.

of Denver that will give it 4 million subscribers, has several other deals "in the pipeline," said CNBC executive Caroline Vanderlip. NBC announced its intention to get into cable two years ago. ABC has an 80 interest in the all-sports ESPN channel. Of the three networks, only CBS, which briefly involved itself in cable in the early '80s, is not now involved in cable. 1969 MI 1 i UWVINlAl CITT Cmapwi 04on Univtrul Crty Cmtmn 11111501 0611 Mr iM.lat 4M.lt.

41 MalM rf achieved in this performance could not be faulted. Nor could one complain about the impressive overture to this program, the string sextet from Richard Strauss' "Capriccio," as played by violinists Brown and Ralph Morrison, violists Roland Kato and Laura Kuennen and cellists Douglas Davis and Nils Oliver. As a sound experience, and for its integrated musical flow, this reading occupied a high plateau. Samuel Barber's ubiquitous Adagio for Strings became less touching and less cohesive, if similarly lush in the ear; perhaps it needs a conductor shaping its progress with two fully involved hands. This time around, its emotional points seemed flattened out.

At mid-program, fortepianist Steven Lubin, game but undistinc-tive, offered a competent, largely uncharacterized run-through of Haydn's D- major Concerto that did nothing to enhance the reputations of either performer or composer. Brown Co. remained alert. -DANIEL CARIAGA PAIADf.HA UniUd Anitti lhaatia HI 5171 MVTRtKM SOCK I Canyi C't (7141612 MOO FfOUMfl HH.LI AMC RoHmg Him 1213)3245511 TAN2ANA Mann VIHay Win 1611)591 1141 UPUNC Mannl (714)942 71SI VAIINCU Mann 10 1605)2553956 HNTIMA Mann Suanavtnlut! 10516566644 WflTCOVHU SoCH Wecovi 11111334 5574 WftTMWtTEA UAMal 1714) H3 0544 WOOOLAWKTIU UA Warner Cental I4III 999-2130 WlirWOOO SIVIAtT HHL9 HOUTWOOO GCCAvcoCwvini CvMIMiStvlilyCliiUI MjnnFoi 475 0711 552 7710 4U2194 MUH'IA HrKMl4l I II4.T4I.I4II AH4IM IM'tM'tX fit I MUM tt4a If AMOVOSAAJIOf CWMAMCCMo IHWTW4T0N 4IACH MfM FtttivH Cmtrnw fownSquAillO (0WI4S 106142 7553 1714159(200 HuMngloil Cwna A2U4A Edwvdl tmOPHIOUtTmf 1714144 (1341 FooMC4fitliCnu4 AMCPixnuUallO MVM I9III919.M32 I1I1ISI0-5U4 flMnll UnivtiMy 9U COIUM 1711454 1411 UAMmiitS Corona LA bMAOA ftrtlMvkftplac PkiIK I Gattway 5 17141 M9-W34 HTOM I7I4I523-I9II 9MIUPAM Mailt SaiJMMCl. 10M4IACM UAMovwa I7I4IS9I 5M0 AMC Manna Paotlca (714 952 4992 MMIAll 493-5521 UMAW MmnGWttM MANHATTAN MACM AMCBuibanlilO (411)241 4177 Mannl llll) 963.9400 9UUIA04HIU WSUOMVHJO CIPAHT09 UAMovm Edwaioi Clown Vaty UAUa)924 7724 141113650032 1714)344 0120 Mann Huntington Oaki 6 (till 354 4545 IMiniMVMM EOwanJt Momaiiy Ma 141115701024 MWP0T4tACH fowaKM lido itwatri (714) 171350 xmHHOurwooo UAMoviM 1111)764 4117 GCC RanchoCmania6 17141370.2095 SANTA AJU AMCManPlac (714)972 4500 SANTA ANA E0wdt Hulton CantarlCmamat (714)662 2261 IMEPJUNOAU GCC STwmanOahiCiftaiTia llll) 9449640 AMCIkangaMal 17141637 0340 Slaomm Onve hi (7I4 639 6770 LANCAITIA TheMovwl 4 14061 94S464S PAlMOiSiNT PamnloPmas 1119) 3443921 IhlMoviM 119)2450231 Santa 4alaia Oiml (405) 964 9400 JUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Displaying most of the virtues of her ensemble, Iona Brown, music director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, returned to Ambassador Auditorium, and the group's subscription series, Saturday night.
