Four-year-old Renate Hoppe's father is safe from the Communists He said he received information of his impending: arrest in the Rus- eian-controlled East Zone of Berlin in time to flee for his life, and bring his wife and daughter with turn. are now Sault area resi- dents, and for the time being, are guests ol llr. and Mrs. Waiter Buhro of the Lower Hay Lake Road In Bruce Township. The three new arrivals are Walter Hoppe, 49, his wife Kaete, 40, and fcheir four-year-old daughter. Renate. All three -were born in Berlin, the pre-war German capi- taJ which is now occupied by Americans, Britons, French, and E.US- siaui. Speaks Little English Hoppe speaks iittle English, but Buhro said he was a distributor of fish nets, veils, and allied prod- ucts prior to the Berlin blockade. After that, it was impossible for him to continue in that business and he secured emplO3'ment a court policeman.

He indicated he was working for a "western Organization" in East Benin, three of his comrades were arrested by the Communists. However, Buhro received forewarning of his expected arrest, and with his wife and daughter to West Berlin, which was controlled by the western powers. They were able to take only a few possessions with them, and what their friends could smuggle to them, but Hoppe said he had to flee for his life. He had previously been a prisoner of the Russian secret police for two months before that; asked why, he merely shrug-ged should ere in ques- i tion. Chance for Family Buhro said Hoppe wanted to get out of Communist territory for the I sake of his family.
