In fact, Newsome called the upcoming 2018 NFL season a make-or-break year for Perriman, a former first-round NFL Draft pick. The 24-year-old receiver has struggled with injuries since being drafted by the Ravens in 2015 after his junior season at UCF. "He's going to come back in the offseason program and it's up to Breshad to determine if this will be a breakout season.

Breshad knows that and it's up to him whether he can string together, stack together some practices," Newsome said. "He was doing really, really well in the OTAs and training camp last year and then he missed four weeks with a hamstring injury and I don't think he ever recovered. But he knows that this is his opportunity to make or break being a part of the Ravens." Perriman missed his rookie season with a knee injury and suffered a hamstring injury last year that Newsome said he believes the receiver never recovered from. In the past two seasons, Perriman has caught 43 passes for 576 receiving yards through 27 games. The Ravens went 9-7 last season and are actively looking to improve their receivers.

"We're looking for the opportunity to change that room in terms of personnel and the people that are in that room and we're not going to leave any stones unturned," New-some said. In a way, social media drove Phoebe Schecter away from her beloved horses. As a child, Schecter aspired to own a horse farm and rescue animals. She earned a degree in equine business management from Post University in Connecticut and moved to England to work with horses after graduation. Schecter was perfectly content when she noticed a Facebook ad for a football league.

"I was looking for a way to meet people and get a bit of American culture," said Schecter, 28. "I just went for it." Before playing, Schecter's time spent around football consisted solely of watching the Super Bowl a couple of times. From that humble beginning, she has grown to the point where she took part in the NFL Women's Careers in Football Forum the past two years during Pro Bowl Week in Orlando and is one of nine attendees who served coaching, scouting or production internships in the league in 2017. Schecter was a coaching intern with the Buffalo Bills. "We're focused on just normalizing females in football operations, on the sidelines," said Sam Rapo-port, the NFL's director of football development.

"What we're trying to achieve is when we stop talking about, 'She's a female scout, she's a female coach, and it just becomes normal. "That's when we'll feel like we achieved something." In a sport charged with testosterone, it's very rare for women to rise above especially when the job entails interacting with players or analyzing their strengths and weaknesses on tape. Jacqueline Davidson and Anne Doepner are the exceptions. They hold the title of director of football administration with the New York Jets (Davidson) and Minnesota Vikings (Doepner). Katie Sowers is on the San Francisco 49ers' coaching staff, the second woman to be a full-time NFL assistant.

The women who attended the forum in Orlando 220 two years ago and 50 in 2017 are early By Shannon Green Staff Writer INDIANAPOLIS -Former Oklahoma quarterback Baker May-field was an open book during his media interview session at the NFL Scouting Combine. And it was a really good read. Swarmed by at least 60 reporters, he took a slew of hard-hitting questions ranging from his off-the-field character to his lack of height and delivered his best interview yet. Here are a few highlights: On potentially joining the Browns: "That would be a chance to play football, I'd love that. First things first, they'd get a winner, if anybody's going to turn that franchise around, it's going to me.

They're close, they're very close, they've got the right pieces they just need that one guy and quarterback to make the difference." On whether he's the best quarterback in the draft: "Absolutely, and if you don't have that mindset then something's wrong. Everybody else is probably thinking that same thing." On what teams are asking him about: "Teams ask me about my character, but until you sit down and talk to me directly, you might have an image that's portrayed in stories or headlines. But I love the game, I'm up front and honest, I know exactly what I'm about and that's the most important thing. What you see is what you get. I've always been brutally honest and some people don't like that because it's rare now days.

But I go into these meetings and I'm just myself. I want to get drafted to a team that knows exactly what they're getting." UCF Continued from Page CI 18 offensive plays of 20-plus yards and he tied for fourth place place among the Football Bowl Subdivision with 13 receiving touchdowns. Scouting Combine stars are made based on speed. Smith understands this and improving his top-end speed was a point of emphasis while he trained along with former UCF teammate Jordan Aldns at the Michael Johnson performance training center in Texas earlier this year. "It was really about staying low and not popping up," Smith said of working on his mechanics.

"They kept getting on me about my chin angles. That was something I had to work on a lot because I'm a stiff person. So I had to work on that a lot" Aldns to miss drills due to injury Former UCF tight end Aldns will not participate in NFL Scouting Combine drills due to a pulled hamstring, a source told the Orlando Sentinel Friday. Aldns is one of four UCF players who traveled to Indianapolis for the combine, matching the highest amount of players from the school since 2015. He is joined by his former college teammates Tre'Quan Smith, Mike Hughes and Shaquem Griffin.

Aldns told reporters Fri Stephen Ruiz Sentinel Writer in their potential career paths. Callie Brownson of Mount Vernon, interned in the Jets' scouting department last year. "Way before I got there, there was a mentality of, 'How do I establish myself as a respectable Brownson said. A solid resume helps. Brownson, 28, has coached high-school football and played professionally.

Schecter has coached men's and women's tackle football and is coming off an internship at Bryant University in Rhode Island. Laurence Pontbriand has experience, too. The Montreal native has coached women's flag football, won a championship as a professional tackle football player and represented Team Canada. She attended the forum in January. "I wake up every morning, and there's something about football on my mind," said Pontbriand, 29.

"I cannot see my life without football." Whatever football roles a woman pursues, her knowledge usually is questioned in a way that a man's grasp of the sport might not be. Whether on the field or in the film room, it's really the same for women. It's a proving ground. "I would be lying if I said every single person that I've come across agrees that I should be in this role, but once they see where I've played, that I've coached, where I've Nine women earned internships with the league after the first NFL Women's Careers in Football Forum during Pro Bowl Week in Orlando in 2017. Said Pontbriand: "We know about football just as much as men can know about football. We can bring something else to the game that will help the team improve. Definitely." About five years after stumbling across that Facebook ad, Schecter recently accepted a position in football development for NFL UK. She is helping the league grow the sport overseas. In the process, she is receiving an education far different than anything she could have predicted.

"It's completely changed my life," Schecter said. "You just have to come out and say the right things, talk to the right coaches and bonding with them is very important," Aldns said. "It's just an honor to come out and participate in this Combine and job interviews as well" Aldns played a key role in helping lead UCF football to a 13-0 record last season. In addition to adding another big-bodied blocker on the field, the Atlanta native scored four touchdowns through the regular season where he caught 32 passes for 515 yards in a diverse offensive system that showcased a variety of playmakers. He is expected to be healthy in time to compete in UCF's Pro Day, scheduled for March 29.

National tide debate continues Months after UCF's historic Peach Bowl win, Aldns couldn't escape the question whether he felt the Knights were the true national champions. "UCF all day. We played our hearts out, we came together as one and at the end of the day, we look at it as we are the national champions," Aldns said. "We beat Auburn, who beat the national champs Alabama as well as Georgia and we think we earned it We just weren't presented with the opportunity to play' EDITED FROM NEWS SERVICES Fishuij FRESHWATER: Capt.
