Many of them Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Victor Borge, Bob Hope, Jackie Gleason, the Baird puppets, Fred Astaire, Lena Home, Humphrey Bogart, Sam Levenson, Teresa Brewer and hundreds have been introduced to TV audiences on the Sullivan show.

And Ed and co-producer Mario Lewis have probably brought more innovations to television than any other production team in the business. All in all, "The Ed Sullivan Show" has had a very worthwhile 11 years. At 7 p.m., channels 2, 3, 8. Other top shows of the video week are previewed below. All times given are Central Standard.

At (Continued on TV Page 3) anne By WILLIAM EWALD NEW YORK now nibbling on the stub of the season, an appropriate time for assaying the'fare tossed from September to June. There's no doubt that the starting point should be CBS-TVs Playhouse 90. Like Abbu Ben Adhem, its name led all the rest this season.

It unloaded a few bombs, but on the whole, iis quality was amazingly high. It was a show which laced excitement into the week and in "The Old Man," "Days or Wine and Roses," and "Project three of the semester's finest dramas. Aside from Playhouse 90, there was only one other slick- out event of the "An Evening with Fred Astaire." It was a stunner. The best acting job of the season was pitched by John Gielgud in CBS-TV's "The Browning Version" with Lee Cobb a wisp behind for "Project Immortality." Among the girls I'd have to go with Gerry Page for "The Old Man" or Julie Harris in "Johnny Belinda." Close Siobhan McKenna, Piper Laurie, Maria Scheel. I'd also like to ring in Tammy Grimes for her delightful capering in NBC- TV's Omnibus "Forty-Five Minutes from Broadway." The worst acting jobs of the season.were turned in by Jane Russell'in "Ballad for a Badman" on CBS-TV's Desilu Playhouse and on another and more torturous level, Helen, Hayes in' anything.

As long as I'm on worsts, I should take note'of NBC-TV's Oldsmobile Music Theater as the most dreadful nighttime series. The most "-horrendous one-shots? Take one of three: NBC-TV's "Frances Langford CBS-TV's "Little Women" or ABC-TV's The highlight: Anything by Elaine and Mike. Sid- Caesar's spoof of a teenage record hop on an NBC-TV, special, Jack Benny's joust with a trio of chimps on a CBS-TV Oscar Levant's first guest shot on the Paar Shawn's take-off on the leather jacket set on an NBC-TV Eddie Fisher show, Dayton Allen's lecture on surgery on the NBC- TV Steve Allen Show. The Allen hour maintained a. consistently high comedy level.
