BaTOBDAT, May SO, 187S. The total receipts of wool at this port during the patt week have been froo boles of domestic and 276 bales ft r-eigo, sgaiust 3562 bales domf sttc and 166 bales foretf for the corresponding week of last year.

Total ceij ts since January 1. 62,874 bales domestic ord 13,199 bald foreign, against 73.685 bales dumesiic and 10 6fl baits foreign in 1874, and 76,216 bates dom Mie and 6 half foreign for the san-e period fn 183. The sales of the week comprise 690 000 lbs of domestic and C'aliforrla fleece and pulled, and 187,000 lbs foreign, betides 2.COt',000 tbs carpet sold ten days ago but not reported, making a total of 8,077,000 lbs. There bas been less Inquiry far fleece nnd California the past week and pulltd wools have been decidedly dull. Manufacturers are unwilling to itock up at present prices, as thty believe the new clip must open a good deal lower than last year.

The sa es of California comprise 35.000 Dm, mostly new wool, at prices ranging from 2 32c for fair to good lots, and 34 ft 38c for choice buiry staple wool. The receipts of this description are larger and thf-re Is now a pood assortment In dealers' hands which they are indisposed to put upon the market at current rates. There have been large salee of Kentucky wool, and about 75 000 His of combing have been sold at 4850c, the latter price for a very choice lot. Fleece wool has ruled quiet ai'd the sales comprise on tbn of all descriptions, at 62' for choice and XX Pennsylvania mid Ohio: 46 (j 48c for fine to choice New Hampshire and Witconefn, and 48 49c for Michigan. Advices from the wool gro'lng sec-tirna indicate a lower range of prices than was paid for laet year's clip.

CoarBe wools are beintr sold at 40c, and buyers are not disposed to pay over 4'2vi43c for fine wool, and at this price the words would be aa dear as the fine fierce now offering In this maifcet. There will also be ore discrimination used In selecting wool this year, and fleeces tbat are badly washed will be left on owners' hands. There is a large stock of foreign wool on the market, and the clip of California Is much greater than usual, so that low prices will be likely to rule at least dnrlng the early part of tho season. Wo have received Fenno ft Soce' annual circular, which contains much valuable information to thoeo who propose to purchase wool the present season. .18 A. 15 Beef, eorned.trtj 8 A 10 Bmoked, TEHBIBLB CALAMITY. BURNING OF A. CHURCH! If early One Hundred Lives Lost I On Friday night last, 28th, at Holyoke, occurred one of the moBt terrible catastrophes ever recorded in this country, by which in brief space of time nearly a hundred victims were burnt to death and many so badly injured as to make recovery impossible. The scene of the disaster was the Frencl Catholic church, a wooden building about 100 by 60 feet, with galleries at sides and end.

On the evening of Friday, the pastor, Fatbei Dufresne, was holding an evening service, and the audience numbered some 700 persons. The exercises had nearly closed, vesper service being sung, when a candlt caught on the altar, and the wall being low it streamed np and caught the building. The mass of the people in the body of the church escaped, but on the stairway leading from the gallery the people were packed in a dense mass struggling for escape. The flames rushed toward them and many leaped to the floor beneath and were trampled to death. The gallery started on both sides of the building with one entrance from the front.

The scene was fearful in the extreme during tht little while it lasted, for the whole was over in twenty minutes. Tha people were packed in a solid maBs, struggling to clear themselves as the flames rushed toward them. The entrance soon became 1 eked, rendering exit impossible, and many jumped over the sides of the galleries on the crowd beneath, and many were trampled on and killed. The priest's residenoe joins the church on the rear, and many escaped through an entrance leading to the house back of the altar. The priest's exertions to keep order were fruitless.

The screams of the living and the moans of the dying made deafening tumult above the orders of the pastor, who worked most heroically and was personally instrumental in saving many lives. One family of four were in the church, and all were killed. Many were pulled out by the arms and feet, so badly burned that they lived but a few hours, the flesh peeling oil on being touched. Some were taken out with scarcely any flesh remaining on their bones. The sisters of mercy from the convent were soon oi hand, caring for the wounded and holding services over the dying, while Father Dufresne also held many services over the dying.

His mother was among those terribly burned, Father Dufresne lost most everything in bis residence adjoining the church, so rapidly was the building consumed. Sixty-six dead bodies were taken out, mostly from the entry way. Many who were taken out alive were fatally injured. Up to Sunday night the total number of deaths was 60, large proportion of them being females. The wounded number 37 injured, and 10 who will probably die.

The funeral services over 48 of the victims were held on Saturday. It was a solemn and impressive occasion. The funeral procession was nearly a mile in length, including 132 carriages. The loss of property was comparatively mall. There was $100 insurance on the church, and $1000 on tho priest's house.
