If you're not a l.os Angeles Times subscriber, you're missing. You're missing getting The Times first thing in the morning, seven days a week. You're missing the convenience of having The Times delivered to your home. And most importantly, you're missing the latest in news, sports, business and entertainment as reported by the West's leading newspaper: the l.os Angeles Times.

Don't miss out, begin home delivery of The Times by calling the number for your area today. By KENNETH J. GARCIA, Timrs Stajj Writer Continued from I'iikc -I and thus bo affected by the wild rivers program. California's Wild and Scenic River program began 16 years ago by protecting six rivers the Smith, Klamath, Kel, Trinity, North Fork of the American and Lower American rivers. No other effort has been made since then to expand the system, Evans said.

The state wild rivers program was begun primarily to save those North Coast rivers, particularly the winding, unpredictable Eel River, from being diverted to provide water for Central California farms and Southern California cities. It was modeled after the similarly named federal program, which was started four years earlier and unlike the state program-also protects wild rivers' watersheds and "viewsheds" the adjacent lands that drain water into rivers and are seen from them. Hamilton was well compensated for his position at the company in recent years, earning in excess of $1 million annually and making the list of the nation's top-paid executives in 1985. A member of the National Electronic Distributors the Radio Pioneers of Southern California and the Pepperdine University Associates, Hamilton was also a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, Child Help U.S.A.

and the Muscular Dystrophy Assn. In 1987, The Anthony R. Hamilton Educational Technology Center at Culver City High School was established in honor of his 30th anniversary in the electronics industry. Hamilton is survived by his wife, Terry; two sons, Anthony of Orange County, and Richard, of Sunnyvale, three daughters, Deborah Sword of Los Angeles, Terry Beaton of Del Mar, and Sandra Hamilton of Eugene, and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be private.

Anthony R. Hamilton, a leading electronics industry executive who launched the nation's first semiconductor distribution company, has died at age 64. Hamilton, who died Thursday of liver cancer, had served since 1980 as chairman and chief executive officer of Avnet a New York-based electronics firm. The Brentwood resident received numerous industry awards in recent years, including recognition as one of Electronic Business magazine's "Ten Best Electronic Industry Executives" for the last three years. Hamilton worked out of an office at Hamilton Avnet Electronics, an Avnet subsidiary, in Culver City.

Hamilton served two years in the U.S. Army in World War II and later attended Columbia College. A native of North Bergen, N.J., he formed Hamilton Electro Sales in 1957. The firm became the nation's first semiconductor distributor. The company went public four years later and it was acquired by Avnet Inc.

He was 70 years old. Willman, a native of Londonderry, Ireland, died Saturday on the way to a New York hospital, said a friend, Emanuel Gambino. He was recently diagnosed as having a heart ailment and was stricken while watching an afternoon movie at a theater near his home.

He won the Tony Award for his 1961 "A Man for All Seasons," which he directed both in London and on Broadway. Role With Burton Willman first appeared in New York in 1951, when he starred on Broadway opposite Richard Burton and Elizabeth Ashley in "Legend of Lovers." In 1966, he directed the Broadway version of "A Lion in Winter," starring Robert Preston and Rosemary Harris. He last worked as a director in 1981, when he directed Katharine Hepburn in "A Matter of Gravity" and "West Side Waltz" in New York. Plans for funeral and memorial services were delayed until Will-man's sister, Aline Wales, arrives in New York Tuesday from her home in Belfast, Gambino said. 1 -jMlj Finn spliSTi i ft if 13 til yuw 'MIL full is A 1 Carlo Scorza; WWII Italian Fascist Dictator Benito Mussolini appointed Scorza party secretary in April, 1943.

Thirty-five of the 62 Southern California hospitals offering coronary angioplasty reported fewer than 150 cases, including 25 with fewer than 100 cases. Angioplasty is an increasingly used alternative to coronary artery bypass surgery. It is performed by cardiologists who are trained in internal medicine, not in surgery. During an angioplasty, clogged heart arteries are opened with a balloon-tipped hollow tube inserted through the skin and threaded through a groin vein to the heart. away on Christmas Eve, December had fewer than the 300-case minimum recommended for each catheterization laboratory by the American Heart Assn. In contrast, 29 Southern California hospitals reported more than 1,000 catheterizations. Of the 11 Orange County hospitals with cardiac catheterization programs, only Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Anaheim failed to exceed the standard. Kaiser, which has no cardiac surgery program, reported only 251 procedures. Catheterization is a technique used by cardiologists to diagnose heart diseases.

A fine tube called a catheter is passed into the heart through a large blood vessel in the arm or leg. Dye can be injected through the tube to diagnose, for example, blockages of the heart Continued from Page 18 maritan in Los Angeles was the busiest heart surgery hospital in the state in 1987, reporting 1,081 operations, or about 20 cases a week. Ten other hospitals reported more than 600 surgeries. Medical experts caution, however, that there is no evidence that the highest-volume facilities are necessarily superior. "There is a point where the volume may be so great that the individual patient may not get the individual attention that would be best," said McGoon of the Mayo Clinic.

Fifteen of the 80 Southern California hospitals offering adult heart catheterizations reported fewer than the minimum of 260 catheterizations recommended in state regulations.
