Campbell was minister of I he First Presbyterian Church in Stroudsburg and during that time he broadcast weekly over WVPO. Currently his series of sermons arc being broadcast over WARM, Scranton. Dr. Campbell's installation will be marked by a procession of religious, institutional and i i a community and the city, and by the participation of a i of related i i i i i a a of The i i Church. Campbell's call to become Riverside's Preaching Minister ma.rks i i a Presbyterian clergyman has i A a a previous pastorate was the First Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor, where he was senior minister to staff of three ministers and 2,300 members since 1962. The former preachers of this 3500 member congregation are still related to the church as minister emeriti. They are the Rev. Dr. Robert J.

McCrackcn who retired in June, 19G7, and now lives in Hightstown, New Jersey; and the Rev. Dr. Harry Emerson Fosdick who was the church's first minister and now lives in Bronxvillc, New York. The Rev, Dr. Carlyle'Marney, well known preacher, lecturer and writer, preach the installation 'sermon. His topic is "A Time to Speak." Director Rev. Ernest T. Campbell of Interpreter's House at Lake Junalnska, North Carolina, Dr.

Marney is a warm personal friend of Dr. Campbell's and represents a major influence on his thinking. Representing The Riverside Church will be (he Rev. Dr. Robert J.

McCracken, Dr. Campbell's predecessor, who will give the charge to Die minister, and the Rev. Dr. Eugene E. Laubach, Executive Minister, who will give the charge to congregation.

In keeping with the Presbyterian tradition, Dr. Campbell will i pronouncing the benediction. Special music for the service will be provided by the 65 voice i i Choir the direction of Mr. Frederick Swann, the church's Director of i a a i Carilloimour James. R.

Lawson will give a recital preceding the service. Dr. Campbell was born in New York City and grew up in Morningside Heights. He attended Elementary P.S, 125, graduated from Junior High P.S. 43 at Amsterdam Avenue and 129lh Street near The Riverside Church and from the High School of Commerce in i Campbell's earliest church experiences were in Morningside Presbyterian Church which later became (he Church of the Master.

During his teen years i a a i a i a i i i Morningside Heights. a in 1 I i a a i a a lecturer. He has been in the pulpits of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian, Madison Avenue i a a Episcopal and St. Thomas Episcopal Churches in New York Cily, Ihe New York Avenue i a i Washington, D.C., and many a a a a a conferences of the Synod of Virginia, the Synod of Now York, the Synod of Minnesota, and at the Massanetta Springs Bible Conference for 10 of Ihe last I I years. In 1965 he was appointed preacher of the year to Ihe National Presbyterian Church in Washington, Dr.

Campbell was active in the preaching mission movement, a i i a i throughout the United States in cities and in such varied places as a ranchers' camp meeting i i i a i Presbyterian Board of National Missions to preach in Alaska and Cuba. He has also preached and lectured at many colleges and seminaries. He gave the Biting a Presbyterian Church, Alabama, in 1963 and the Willson Lectures at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, in 1966. Because Riverside Church owns radio station WRVR, Dr. a a i i i i broadcasting have been of special significance.

He did weekly broadcasts for nine years while serving parishes in Pennsylvania. He has also broadcast sermon series for The Protestant Hour which is aired throughout Ihe country. Dr. Campbell's interest in religious a a i a i expression in 'his being a member of the Council on Mass i a i Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. The basic framework within which Dr.

Campbell approaches the ministry of the church is to challenge the polarization taking place between those supporting a personal religion only and those supporting social involvement only. He believes strongly that both emphases are essential for a viable faith today.
