DAYTON DAILY NEWS Nalurdi, August 1ft. Ifl67 It Takes More Than Glasses By MAX MOSS, Dally Newt Sport Writer lESSL MrKinley bought a pair of special prescription shoot- ing glasses recently and he hoped they might help him in the Grand American Trapshoot at Vandalia these next few rT days. But, Friday morning, after shooting the first 75 birds of the opening-day program, he discarded the expensive glasses. At that point, Jesse was 23-23-20 in the 16-yard event and plenty discouraged. "I was missing and then a friend told me I was 'really missing' some of them so I got rid of the darn things in a hurry," he related while relaxing between events.

"And I finished up with 25 in a row." And the veteran shooter from just north 19 VS. 20, VET VS. VET IIS AMATEUR PASADKNA. Calif. Wl Two veterans and two youngsters faced each other Friday as the Women's National Amateur golf tournament moed into the semifinal round at the Annan-dale Golf Club.

In one match, 1965 champion Jean Ashley of Cha-nute. met medalist Phyllil iTishi Preuss of Pompano Beach, Fla. In the other, Lou Dill, 19, of Deer Park, went aRainst Peggy Conley, a ear-old University of Washington coed from Spokane. In the quarterfinals, 'lie 28-year-old Miss Preuss rdged Jane Bastanchuiy, 1-up Miss Ashley sidelined Martha Wilkerson of Fuller-ton, Calif, the collegiate champion. and 2.

Miss Dill bent Marianne Cox. the 16-ye ar-old, 2-up. Miss Conley bent Mis. Scott Probasro of Chattanooga, 1-up. Mors of Phillipsburg didn't stop with the 16-yard birds.

Friday afternoon, he hit 95 of the more difficult handicap targets again without his new glasses. WHILE HE DIDN'T carry home any silver for his efforts H7 was tops in the Class Singles and two shooters broke H9 in the handicap event), the 51-ycar-old farmer was obviously pleased. "Guess I'll come back tomorrow," he said, "and give these young fellows a run for their money." Coming to the Amateur Trapshooting association (ATA) home grounds for the Grand only a nine or 10-mile drive isn't anything new for McKinJoy. He started shooting in 1958 and he competed in his first 'fS Beach Steps Up To Jet Top oh John Beach, a 10ti5 DAVE HILL MISSES COURSE RECORD Putt Off Course for Round of 61 UP1 Grand that year. "I've won a few trophies along the way and I really shook 'em up my first year here, in '58." Explaining, he continued, "That year, as a new shooter, I won a Class shoot and brokP 97 of 100 in the big one, the Grand American Handicap.

"Boy, did they penalize me in a hurry." Then, the veteran whose 95 Handicap score was tops among the Dayton area shooters in the field, also explained he finished first in the 16-yard preliminary event in the 1960 Grand. Although McKinley's "getting older" now, his ability is well respected at the ATA grounds with or without his glasses. WHmette, III, CHICAGO (UPI) Mu-hammed Ali Cassius Clay Honeymooned today with his bride, Belinda, a pretty, petite teenager schooled in the ways of his Black Muslim sect. The deposed heavyweight champion, who faces a five-year prison term for draft evasion, took Friday as his second wife Belinda Boyd, 17, who attended the Black Muslim University of Islam. THE CEREMONY, presided over by a Baptist minister in Clay's home on the far South Side, combined rites of the pion, the sources said, wanted to go to Europe, but cannot because his appeal on the draft conviction is pending. CLAY, 23, look motion pictures of the guests before he cut the two-layer wedding cake, and then said: "These children want some cake.

They're tired of all tins jiving." The ceremony was performed by Dr. Morris II. Tynes of the First Church of the Master. The Rride wore a floor-length white silk dress with a lace train. Clay wore a black silk suit.

Muslim and Christian faiths. It was held on such short notice the former champs parents were unable to get here from Louisville in time to witness the ceremony. Clay and Belinda had taken out a marriage license Thursday. They hinted then they probably would marry this week end. Clay's mother said she had thought the wedding would be Sunday.

Sources close to Clay said the couple would honeymoon this week end. possibly in Honolulu. Class AA firer Norbert Liette of St. Marys and Lee Davidson, Winchester professional from Tipp City, were both perfect from the line. Three men, Gene Sears. FJ Reno, Chris Bishop of Leewood, and Jack Morris of San Antonio, are still in the running for championship honors in Friday's opening 16-yard event as all broke 200 straight in shoot-offs before deriding to call it quits for the evening. That made 300 straight for them.

The title will be decided on the outcome of today's firing, the men mutually agreed. Perhaps an example of what to expect when the "real'' firing begins next week, 12 shooters went into the shoot-off after breaking 100s. DRAWING MORE than its share of the slim opening day spectator crowd was a "name" squad in the Handicap. Ali-America choices Orlich and Sears were joined by George Snedonberger of Angola, who broke 600 straight at 16 yards in the Ohio State shoot a few weeks ago, A. L.

Brown of Topeka, and Lester Badburg of Lincoln, Neb. The five 27-yard shooters disappointed their fans somewhat, however, as Sears was tops with a 95 and Orlich and Snellenberger were next high with 93s. The fans expected more of their nevcr-miss heroes unfortunately. le Adair, Valle 'Calif 1 4 Lrl Buah, Princeton A-J O'CnnneH Santa a SC. Ill 15 1 A Ctan lai-mevi in'livdual medVv 1 Claudia Knit).
