(Hetrickl MITCHELL, formerly Saturday Tuesday. While Bgmwers clogged the area of one of Van Writ county's worst tragedies, barricades scaled off llic scorched five acres where Mrs. Priscilla Rigdon and hci seven children Jived. Saturday morning, a pipeline blast leveled the house, killed one of the Rigdon youngster and seriously burned other members of the family. VAN WERT COUNTY hospital reported today that Mis.

Rigdon and five of her children are in fair condition. Improving with their mother fire twins Daniel and David, Hi Esther, 5 and Timothy, eight months. Richard Jones, a friend of the twins, is also listed as fair. Another youngster, three-year-old Rachel is listed as good. Mary, 7, remains in critical condition.

Nancy, ft, was killed. Gov. James A. Rhodes called on the State Highway patrol today to launch an investigation to determine whether the state had any responsibility in connection with the blast. THE INITIAL summation was that a spark from a passing freight train triggered the explosion from a leak in thp propane gas pipeline, owned by the Buckeye Pipeline Co.

of Lima. Sgt. A. T. Garlock of the Van Wert post of the patrol said today the investigation is almost completed by his officers.

He said they could not confirm that a train's sparks caused the blast. The sergeant reported that high humidity kept the escaping gas close to the ground. "IT WAS like an above-ground atom blast," he asserted. The crew of an Eric-Lacka-wana train reported smelling gas as they passed through a "foggy-looking" area. Seconds later flames erupted.

Crewmen escaped injury and the train was not derailed. The Rigdon home, 500 yards away, was leveled and farm animals in nearby fields were killed and injured. venia Steele of Dayton and Alice White of Pittsburgh, her son, William Hill; 2 step Division Saturday. Services 2 p.m. today.
