The employment of bloodhounds to hunt down criminals, fugitives, tramps and almost any and everything else that is not within sight, is becoming as tiresome as it is ridiculous. There is doubtless more in the industry of breeding these canines with pendulous ears and voracious appetites than in the numerous uses to which they are put. The scent idea is largely imaginary and as for tracking they are not at all reliable where they can not be at once put on the original trail and are more of ten'likely to mislead than to direct properly. The bloodhound business, except as a source of revenue of kennels, is a humbug. Any canine of ordinary sagacity with the least training can pursue a trail and the bloodhounds can do no more.

Frightens Misa Helen'Matthews Yesterday. The following from the Indianapolis Hews of yesterday gives an account of Misa Helen Matthews unpleasant experience-with a burglar. Miss Matthews recently visited for two weeks with the Misses Rogers of Long Cliff. "Governor Matthaws's family this forenoon had a merry time with a burglar, Mrs. Matthews and her daughter, Helen, had gone out for a few minutes, and returned to find the house in some disorder.

Miss Helen went up stairs and came face to face with a burglar. He sprang into one room and locked the door, and she with equal agility sprang into another room and bolted the lock. In the meantime her screams gave the alarm, and Mrs. Matthews and the servants, upon learning the situation, spread the news. The governor's house was recently burglarized, and when it was known that another burglar was in the house there was lively scurrying about.

Men came in off the street and offered their assistance, and one of them, looking up at the window, saw the burglar pointing a heavy revolver at him. He got out of range but was reinforced by numerous arrivals, and made an attack upon the house. But the burglar had made a sortie urseen, and it appears, calmly, walked into Mr. Schull's house adjoining, and asked the cook for a chisel with which to do some work. She gave it to him, and he was chiseling his way through the premises in search of what might be useful, while detectives and a host of people were searching the governor's premises' high and low.

The burglar got away." HERE'S A NEW LIST! Including Silverware Free! Previous List Revoked for 35c boy's sweaters. 8cfor25c celluloid and fiberloid collars. 18c for4Oc celluloid and fiberloid cuffs. 18c for 35c balbriggan underwear. 13c for 25c real balbriggan half hose.
