Twenty-four Logansport, Indiana, Pharos-Tribune American Family Menu MADE WITH fruit juice, tfcis cranberry mold is a delicious sala& to go with meat. -\Vine transforms it into a dessert. BY GAYNOR MADDOX NBA Food and Markets Editor For Christmas, here's a ruby cranberry salad to go with turkey, chicken or veal. The salad is made with fruit juices. But this peach slices, 1 cup pitted fresh cherries, J /4 cup sugar, '/a teaspoon salt, % teaspoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, 2 tablespoons soft butter or margarine, I'/i cups mold, if made with red wine, turnsj sifted all-purpose flour, 3 table- Jnto a brillian holiday dessert sal- spoons sugar, IVi teaspoons bailing! ad, to be enjoyed with nuts. powder, V4 teaspoon salt, ;! table-' milk, 1 beaten egg, cherry sauce. Place. peaches, cherries, Vi cup sugar, salt, cinnamon, cornstarch and butter in bottom of a 10x5x3- inch baking dish; stir to blend. Place in hot oven (425 degrees F.) while making dough. Sift flour, 3 tablespoons sugar, baking powder and salt into bowl. Add shortening, milk and egg and mix to a moderately stiff dough. Roll dough to fit 10x5x3-inc'n pah, or cut dough with Christmas tree or s'ar cutter; place over hot fruit. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes' or, just until topping is done. Let stand until just warm; then cut into squares and lift out wi'h a wide spatula to serving dishes. Serve with cherry sauce. Cherry Sauce One-quarter cup sugar, 2 tablespoons, cornstarch, l.cup drained peach syrup and water, 1 cup pitted cherries, crushed; V« teaspoon almond extract, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 2 tablespoons -butter or margarine. Blend 'all ingredienls ' together well. Cook until smooth and thick- cned, stirring frequently, about 5-101 minutes. \ SUNDAY'S DINNER: Oven-broiled chicken with sliced onion and butter, stuffed baked potatoes, green beans with almonds, soft rolls, butter or margine, mixed green salad, peach and cherry cobbler, cherry sauce, cofHee, tea, milk. • Ilinois Youth hows Grand Champion Hog Sharpsville Boy Captures Reserve Grand Championship named bis Dick's Delight, Each boy came to the show with nine animals—all 4-H Club projects. One 1-pound can whole cranberry sauce, 1 package lemon-flavored gelatin, 1 cup hot water, % cup real mayonnaise, % cup sweet red •wine OR orange juice plus 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 cup halved ..green grapes. Dissolve gelatin in hot water. Add mayonnaise, .wine (or fruii juices) and Vi cup whole cranberry sauce. Blend thoroughly with rotary beater. Pour into refrigerator freezing tray. Chill in freezing unit (without changing control) 20 .to 25 minutes, or until firm about l.inch from edge but soft in, center. Turn mixture into a bowl and whip with rotary beatnr until fluffy. Fold in remaining cranberry •sauce and grapes. Pour into 1- quart mold. Chill until firm, about 1 hour. Unmold and garnish with salad greens. Note: This can be made well in sdvance of serving time, but the quick "souffle salad" technique also enables one to turn this mold out in fairly short order. . Myers & Molique, Attorneys. and brother had won before him, today captured the grand, championship hog title at the International Live Stock Exposition. Young Anderson showed a 205- pound Poland China hog that was judged the best ,o£ 850 hog entries at the 58th annual show. Dick Nash, 17, Sharpsville, Ind., won the reserve grand championship with a 240-pound Hampshire, shown . by his father while Dick was attending a 4-H Club meeting. Anderson said he believes he won, "because the animal was a meatier pig than any of the other seven finalists. I'd be glad to have him done up for breakfast." Ed Helgens, Mbnticeiio, Iowa, one of the three judges who picked the grand champion, agreed with Anderson. He said the boy's 4-H project represented the kind of hog that meatpackers "like to buy." Young Anderson also was junior of the show. His father, Oscar W, Anderson, captured the grand champion barrow title in 1951 and 1954. A brother, Holland, •also has taken the title. Be Auctioned Friday The Anderson famils farms a 220-acre place -in LaSalle County in north-central Illinois that raises about 600 head of hogs a year. Dick Nash was. junior champion last year. The family has an 800- acre farm in Tipton County, Indiana, and raises about 1,000 head of hogs. Both boys named their animals during this exposition. The hogs had only numbers when they arrived, Ajiderson now calls his I Gerald's Pride and Xash has J. R. Browne Estate Valued at $46,250 The estate of the late John. Raymond Browne, 70, of this city, who died November 7, was estimated at 846,250 when it was opened Wednesday in the Cass circuit court with the appointment of his son, Robert L., of route 1, Delphi, as administrator. The son is the only heir of the estate. It includes $44,500 in real estate and $1,750 in personal property. Hanna and Hanna are the attorneys for the estate.
