"He got in on the ground floor at a very good time," Cornett said about Microsouth, where Ramsey's brother, Jeff Ramsey, remains.

Ramsey then formed Advanced Products Group, a similar distributing company, Cornett said. It was merged with two other companies in 1989 to become Access Graphics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin, and moved to Boulder. The computer-systems distributor employs 570 people worldwide. Ramsey commuted weekly for a year-and-a-half before his family moved to Boulder in 1991, a year after JonBenet was born here. Ramsey, reportedly a soft-spoken former Naval officer and avid pilot, and his wife live in a $750,000 home in an upscale Boulder neighborhood.

Patricia "Patsy" Paugh Ramsey, 40, was crowned Miss West Virginia 1977. They are active in social and charitable circles, as they were in Atlanta. They have a son Burke, 9. JonBenet also had a stepbrother, John Andrew Ramsey, 20, a University of Colorado student, and a stepsister, Melinda, 25, a Marietta nurse. Another stepsister died Jan.

8, 1992, in a car wreck. Elizabeth Ramsey, 22, was a 1987 graduate of Wheeler High family members. A police spokeswoman said Ramsey, 53, has hired a criminal defense lawyer and is refusing to speak with investigators. Ramsey has been temporarily removed from his post as Access Graphics president. Lockheed spokesman Evan McCol-lum said the company made that move because it did not want to bother Ramsey with business decisions while he grieves.

"This is a terrible time," McCollum said. Asked why John Ramsey hired him, lawyer Bryan Morgan said: "The district attorney has said no one is ruled out" as a suspect. While they lived in the Atlanta area, the Ramseys were active in church and civic activities. John Ramsey was a deacon at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, where JonBenet's funeral was held. Patricia Ramsey was in the Garden Club, Junior League and other groups.

She volunteered for the Festival of Trees and was active in Twigs, a service organization that supports Egleston Children's Hospital. "We at Egleston know and love Patsy," said hospital spokeswoman Anna Haerle. "She did everything that people asked her to," recalled Brady, who continued to baby-sit for the family after she was no longer its nanny. She remembered JonBenet as a sweet, lovely child. "That baby was a little angel," Brady said.

School in Marietta, where she was captain of the varsity cheer-leading squad. She was driving in a snowstorm near Chicago when an 18-wheeler slammed into her car, said Shirley Brady, who was a nanny for the family when the Ramseys lived in Dunwoody. Brady, also a former housekeeper for Prince Faisal M. Saud Al Kabir, said she couldn't imagine the horror of two such deaths in one family. "I just feel I got a hole in my heart," said Brady, 69, now of Americus.

"That is the most loving couple you have ever seen. He's a wonderful father and she's a wonderful mother." Brady worked for the couple from 1986 to 1989. She lived in a garage apartment John Ramsey and. Patricia Ramsey's father built. Patricia Ramsey's parents, Don and Nedra Paugh, moved to Roswell after their daughter married and Don Paugh retired, Brady said.

The family has not spoken to the press, except for a statement John Ramsey released through a friend Tuesday. "The Ramsey family is currently grieving over the loss of their beloved child JonBenet," it said. "There will be a response from the family after an appropriate and respectful of time. Until that time, there will be no further comment." Boulder police have not identified a suspect in the slaying, but said they have taken hair, skin and blood samples from several Registration begins hour before Conference It was the second time John Bennett Ramsey buried a child Georgia, where he planted the seeds of his high-tech business. i By Jay Croft land Don Plummer STAFF WRITERS A family came home to bury a beauty queen Tuesday, drawing on deep Atlanta roots where its rapid ascent began be-ifore spiraling into baffling hor-J ror last week in Colorado.
