William Ray Anderson, age 79, of Clarkesville, GA, who passed away on Thursday, August 28, 1997, at Habersham County Medical Center in De-' morest, GA after a brief illness. He was born and lived his entire life in Habersham County, GA, was the son of the late CO. and Ida Van-dergriff Anderson. He was retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and was the Owner of Anderson Refrigeration and Equipment Company.

In addition to his wife and daughter, survivors include three other daughters, Diane Shefrin of Alpharetta, Beth Roberts of Los Angeles and Kathy Roberts of San Francisco; a son, Ken Roberts of New York; two sisters, Esther Golub and Rose Lampert, both of New Jersey; a brother, Irving Roberts of New Jersey; and four grandchildren. ARNWINE Roberts of Atlanta successful. Using that success to be a passionate supporter of the arts, -'which he believed to be the "epitome of civilization," is what made Mr. Roberts happy. The memorial service for Mr.

Roberts, 77, will be held at 4:30 p.m. today at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Mr. Roberts died of a cerebral hemorrhage Sunday at Crawford Long Hospital. The body was cremated.

Green Lawn Jewish Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements, i- The son of an immigrant fruit peddler, Mr. Roberts started his career as a cloth spreader in a New Jersey clothing manufac- hiring plant, said his wife, Vida Gould Roberts of Atlanta. He moved to Georgia 35 years ago and with the help of his wife opened a dress manufacturing plant in Zebulon. "He had a burning desire to be his own man," said his wife. For 27 years, Mr.

Roberts owned and managed Sherri Lynn mushroomed into a 350-person operation. "He was an enlightened employer before he had to be," said his wife. Sherri Lynn Inc. provided employee services such as a daycare center, guidance counseling and company-paid eye exams in the early 1980s, before many major corporations did. After selling his business in 1987, Mr.

Roberts turned his attention to developing real estate projects, including Ansley Square, and to his most heartfelt cause, supporting Atlanta's arts community. He believed that enjoying the arts was "the epitome of civilization," said his wife. He devoted much of his time and money to ensuring that all people would have access to Atlanta's cultural institutions. He served on the Atlanta Ballet's board of directors and was a con Mr. George E.

Arnwine, of Atlanta, formerly of Sugar Hill, GA, retired employee from StouHers Pineisle Resort, died August 27, 1997. Guest of Atlanta, an original member of the precursor group to Gladys Knight and the Pips, promoted gospel singing for 30 years.

The funeral for Ms. Guest, 57, will be held at '1 p.m. today at Mount Moriah Baptist Church. Ms. Guest, who died of heart failure Saturday at Southwest Hospital, was a member of the Pips when the group formed in 1952.

The members were Ms. and her brother, William, and their cousins Gladys Knight, her sister, Brenda Knight, and her brother, Merald "Bubba" "Knight. Her brother remained with the Pips, and the "Gladys Knight and came later. Recognized posthumously Tuesday for 30 years of service in the accounting department of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Ms.

Guest previously worked for the Dinkier Plaza and Paschal's hotels, said her daughter, Tanya Perry Smith of Detroit. Ms. Guest's commitment to gospel singing went beyond her performances. She was the Atlanta representative of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, founded by gospel singer James Cleveland. As head of the Atlanta GMWA chapter, one of 139 nationwide, she orga nized local gospel singing functions and encouraged participation in the national convention, said her son-in-law, Mark Smith of Detroit.

Ms. Guest also scouted for singers to back up Gladys Knight in her gospel numbers. "Gospel music was her life," said her daughter. Survivors other than her daughter and brother include another daughter, Patsy Irvin of Atlanta; her mother, Margaret Guest-Poole of Atlanta; two other brothers, John F. Guest Jr.

of Charlemont, and E. Leon Guest of Atlanta; and two sisters, Elizabeth "Lit" Patillo and Andretta P. Chapman, both of Atlanta.
