Camp: DeKalb College hosts youth Harts was also selected, but declined the invitation. Because of regulations regarding amateur athletics, each player is responsible for raising the $2,350 to fund the trip. DeKalb College coach Tom Cantrell will hold his first youth baseball camp June 24-28 at the school's Central campus in Clark-ston.

Emory: Pitcher gets academic honor Emory senior pitcher Todd Stein has been named to the GTE Academic All-District first team. Stein had a cumulative 3.4 grade-point average while double-majoring in English and political science. He had a 6-2 record with a 2.15 ERA. to team again in Boston Shootout days. i "It is very beneficial to the players," Williams said.

"This is a good opportunity to develop the players in a controlled atmo- sphere. There is nothing better for a player than getting instructions from former pro players. "You can tell a lot about a person in the way they talk." Williams, president of California-based Goodwill Series will get a firsthand look at Nelloms this summer. On the recommendation of pro scouts, Nelloms was chosen to play for the Indians team in the Australia Friendships Series from July 3-21 in Melbourne, Australia. From the recommendations Williams received, Nelloms is considered the best shortstop prospect in Georgia. The junior all-county selection hit a school-record .471 with 44 RBI and four home runs this spring. He had a county-best 45 runs and 17 doubles.

On the mound, he was 3-1 with 22 strikeouts to 34 innings. "I'm very excited about playing overseas," Nelloms said. "I couldn't believe that I was selected to go. I think the trip will help me a lot in my development" Columbia pitcher Jeremy Tucker stars By Derrick Mahone STAFF WRITER Shernard Long and Darryl LaBarrie are hoping to do for Team Atlanta what they did for Tucker High School. i The two formed an unstoppable guard combination in leading the Tigers to the Class AAA state basketball championship.

Now they are hoping io lead Team Atlanta to a national championship. Team Atlanta will play in the Boston Shootout this weekend in Boston. Team Atlanta is shooting for its record seventh title, its first since 1990. Marist players win state junior championships By Todd Holcomb STAFF WRITER Marist had the premier boys and girls tennis programs in the state last year, and it showed last week at the Georgia Junior Qosed Qualifying Championships last week. Molly Rollauer and Caroline Thompson, the No.

1 and 2 singles players, respectively, for Marist's Class AAA girls state championship teams the past two seasons, met in the girls 18-and-under final of the state's top junior tournament Rollauer, a recent graduate who's headed to Tulane on a ten- nis scholarship, won 6-3, 6-3. Thompson will succeed Rollauer as the team's top player next season and, like Rollauer this year, is likely to be the state's top girls college tennis prospect Marist rising junior Travis Parrott, won the boys 16s in Macon. Parrott, who missed Marist's spring season due to a back injury, defeated St. Pius junior Brian Farrell 7-6, 3-6, 6-4. Parrott is 2-1 this year vs.

Parrott in a matchup of the state's best 16-and-under players. Parrott who'll contend for a top-20 national ranking this year, will push Marist senior Marko Cerenko for the No. 1 position on what could be Marist's strongest team ever next season. Another Marist player, Lee Nickell, finished third in the boys 18s in Macon. Nickell lost to High school: Two sign with colleges A pair of DeKalb County high school players signed to play college baseball McNair's Randy Jones signed with Southern University in Baton Rouge, and Stephen Aultman of Iithonia will play at Berry College.

Jones, a catcher, was named honorable mention all-county after hitting .387 with two home runs and 31 RBI in 93 at-bats. Aultman, a first-team all-county selection, hit .400 with a home run and stole 10 bases. He was also named the school's STAR student Junior college: DeKalb duo drafted i Two DeKalb College players were recently taken in the major league baseball draft Sophomore first baseman and pitcher Tieg Reeder of SnelMlle was drafted in the 29th round by the Atlanta Braves. Center fielder Courteney Stewart of Atlanta was taken in the 25th round by the Chicago Cubs. Reeder, a transfer from die Georgia College, hit .302 with three home runs and 34 RBI.

On the mound, the lefty compiled a 1-1 record with a save in 10.2 innings. He was third on the team with a 2.53 ERA, allowing only three earned runs. Stewart, a transfer from Georgia State University, batted .331 with 26 RBI. A solid fielder, he only committed two errors and led the team with 14 stolen bases. Both players have already signed with their respective clubs and will report to extended spring training.

Program luring kids with fishing experts The Boston Shootout is an all-star tournament featuring eight of the nation's top high school boys all-star teams. Teams from Chicago, Boston, California, Detroit New York will compete along yr 'br. with Atlanta. Atlanta finished fourth last year. The squad is coached by Don Dollar, who was named to the coaching post at Clarkston in April after two years at Carver-Atlanta.

IS By Kent Mitchell and Charles Salter i STAFF WRITERS Television and radio fishing show host O'Neill Williams, experts from the U.S. Fish Wildlife Service, Forest Service and others will be at the Atlanta Sports Rec Stone Mountain store Saturday as part of Berkley Inc's Pathway for Fishing program for youth.

Author and fly fishing expert Don Pfitzer will headline the Pathway program at the Atlanta Sports Rec's Norcross store on the same day. Programs at both stores run from 11 a.m. -2 p.m., and are free. Each participant will receive a free "goodie bag." The program is designed to teach kids of all ages how to fish. They'll learn to tie knots, cast and handle and release fish.

until 2 p.m. 770-923-3004 or High school: New coach at Cross Keys Cross Keys has named Maurice Tyler as its new football coach. Tyler replaces Bill Harris, who took the job at Stone Mountain. Tyler spent the past two seasons as the receivers' coach at Illinois State. He was head coach at North Clayton prior to that In four years, he reversed a North Clayton team that had been 0-10 to an 11-1 mark and a trip to the 1993 state playoffs.

His coaching mark at North Clayton was 25-24. Tyler took part in the NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship in 1992. He served as an Atlanta Falcons assistant during training camp under Jerry Glanville. Before embarking on a coaching career, Tyler played eight seasons in the NFL, CFL and the now-defunct USFL A defensive back, he was a 10th round draft choice of the Buffalo Bills in 1972. He also played with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets.
