Friday, July 30, 1993 LOCAL NEWS The Atlanta Journal The Atlanta Constitution Teen accused in June shooting turns himself in By Bill Robinson STAFF WRITER A teenager sought in the June shooting of a woman as she waited to cross a DeKalb County road surrendered Thursday two days before the victim is scheduled to leave the hospital. Dandy Lee, 19, of College Park was charged with aggravated assault and carrying a deadly weapon on school property after turning himself in about 1 p.m., said DeKalb Capt. Gene Moss. Police said Mr. Lee was in his truck pursuing another vehicle when he fired a handgun, striking Sandra Glover, 37, in the abdomen as she waited to walk across LaVista Road, near the Southern Bell building where she worked.

Critically wounded, Mrs. Glover was taken to Piedmont Hospital, where she has been treated since then. Barring a setback, she is scheduled to go home Saturday, her husband, George Glover, said Thursday night. "It is a miracle that she survived," Mr. Glover said.

"She was very fortunate. It is also the fact that she tried real hard to get well and she is getting well. That's what's important." Investigators said the altercation that led to the shooting began at the Open Campus High School, 2415-a North Druid Hills Road, when Mr. Lee thought two people were trying to steal his Toyota truck from a parking area. He ran out and pursued them in the truck, officers said, opening fire nearby and wounding Mrs.

Glover. His truck was recovered a short time later, but Mr. Lee had eluded capture. GEORGIA IN BRIEF GOP's Edge won't run for governor Senate Minority Leader Arthur B. "Skin" Edge, considered one of the stronger potential Republican challengers to Gov.

Zell Miller next year, said Thursday he will not run for governor. "I have decided not to run and not to seek the nomination," Mr. Edge said in a telephone interview. Following state Sen. Johnny Isakson's withdrawal two weeks ago, Mr.

Edge's decision removed from the campaign another of the more experienced potential GOP candidates. Unlike Mr. Isakson, however, Mr. Edge has not sought statewide office before. The Newnan Republican said his initial enthusiasm to get into the race was tempered by concern for his three children, ages 10, 9 and 4.

"We'll have another chance on down the road," said Mr. Edge, 38. For now, he will seek re-election in the 28th Senate District. Former Waycross Mayor John Knox is the only announced GOP candidate. ing suspect.

A Colquitt County prison inmate only days away from his parole date will remain in jail after being identified as the suspect in the 1988 slaying of a popular Los Angeles disc jockey. Franklin Legrand Perkins, 36, was serving a five-year sentence for possession of a firearm by a felon. He was to be released Tuesday. Authorities said they began receiving tips linking the suspect to the Moultrie area after a 1989 episode of the television show "Unsolved Mysteries" featured the unsolved slaying of disc jockey Lee Selwyn, 23. MOULTRIE: Inmate near parole date becomes '88 slay- parents of a University of Georgia student are suing the university and a fraternity for $2 million, saying their son was attacked and injured at a party.

The parents of Michael Potts said in the suit filed this month in Superior Court that their son was violently attacked and injured during a Kappa Alpha Psi event on April 3, 1992. The suit also names fraternity members George Brewer and Roderick Williams. Mr. Brewer, a former member of the football team, is no longer a student at the university.
