Henry Lane Young Jr. was born Sept. 4, 1911, in Quitman, Ga. He attended the University of North Carolina; operated a flying school where World War II flight instructors were trained; and worked at Bell Aircraft in Marietta before starting the hardware store. if Justus Carlile Martin Jr. was born Jan. 5, 1925, in Providence, R.I. His family moved to Atlanta when he was 5. He graduated from North Fulton High and attended the University of North Carolina and Georgia Tech.

Unable to serve in World War II because he was deaf in one ear, he became a volunteer American Field Service ambulance driver during the war in Africa, Europe and Asia. Afterwards, he graduated from the University of Georgia in 1947, and joined Robinson-Humphrey in 1951. He was a board member of Atlantic Southeast Airlines, the Caldwell and Orkin funds, CIM High Yield Securities, and the Commerce Club; a former trustee of the University of Georgia, Spelman College, Lovett School and the A.G. Rhodes Home; and a member of Gridiron and the Piedmont Driving Club, Capital City Club, Peachtree Golf Club, the River Club in New York, and The longtime chief of the leading brokerage firm in the South had suffered a stroke in February 1992.
