Behind him the passengers looted at each other significantly as he lifted the plane away from the field. "I was sure It was my last minute oa earth." said Mrs. Casey. Each minute seemed an hour to Miller. His crew of ten stood silently at their posts.

Beaverkill Campsite Excellent Spot for Picnic Looking for a place to have a ptcnic over the week-end? Why not drive to the state park at and enjoy the day in a rustic setting. Announcement of the interim report on the first mass-conducted tests in the United States is expected shortly by public health reports and follows a report by R. G.

Ferguson, of the Saskatchewan Anti-Tuberculosis Association, in which he said the vaccine was used with some success in Saskatchewan hospitals and sanitoria. Dr. Joseph D. Aronson. of the Henry Phipps Institute.

Philadelphia, confirmed that the tlrst report on the mass B-C-G vaccinations in this country were ready for distribution. "Results of this study indicate that in higher-Infected communities B-C-G vaccine was found to be given definite protection from tuberculosis." he said. The report in public health reports includes a paper by Dr. Aronson and Dr. Carroll E.

Palmer. It discloses that the study group consisted of 3.007 Indian children, from one year to twenty years old. and that the tests began in December, 1935. The study group was selected from a larger group on the basis of negative tuberculin reaction. The vaccine was given to 1350 with 1.457 not vaccinated.

Then followed annual tuberculin tests and chest X-ray examinations. Living conditions were the same for both groups. During the period, four deaths from tuberculosis occurred in the vaccinated group and twenty-eight deaths from tubercu- lols occurred in the "control" group. The study further showed that chest X-rays revealed lesions of tuberculosis in forty ol the vaccinated group, and 185 of the control group. In terms of cases, per 1.000 person years.

Dr. Aronson said, the rates were 4.7 for those vaccinated and 243 for the control group. The studies were made In Arizona. Wyoming. North and South Dakota and southeast Alaska.

They are scheduled to continue for another seven years. The studies first were originated by the Phipp Institute, and were participated in by D. S. Pub- he Health Service, the Office of Indian Affairs and the National Tuberculosis While neither Dr. Aronson's report nor that of Dr.

Ferguson claimed 100 percent effectiveness, both were optimistic in that B-C-G once was held In bad repute by physicians in the United States. Further studies may result in a more general use of the vaccine. You hare probably noticed considerable amounts of cake, pies, in stores and bakeries while the shortage of bread persists. The average housewife uses all-purpose flour for all types of baking, while the bakers use bread, cake, pastry, high gluten and other flours, suitable for different types of baking.

The soft winter wheat or cake flour is generally unfit for bread baking and as long as bakers hare cake flour on hand you will see fair amounts of cakes, pies and pastries in stores and bakeries. The public therefore, need feel no compunction in buying these articles. George's Bakery Groh's Bake WB 9W4E JHTfiCOWK BBMUtt EKOFW HAVE A-rssue smote? VJCRE OSEO AS ERE VWL fcARTTY.
