Wednesday, April 11, 1945, for digging and backfilling water main and hydrant lead ditches for the season of 1945. It is estimated that 3200 lin. ft. of ditch is to be dug and backfilled. Each bidder will submit with his bid a certified check in the amount of One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) and the successful bidder will furnish a surety company bond in the amount of his bid.

Melvin Jacob- sen, 34 Waubesa st. Pfc. Jacobsen, an infantryman, was wounded Jan. 3 in Belgium. He was one of nine infantrymen who were hitch-hiking a ride to the front on a tank when it struck a mine.

The tank crew was killed and all of the infantrymen were injured. Jacobsen, who has been award- JACOBSEN ed the Purple Heart, received a broken wrist, burns on the face, and concussion bruises to his left side. Originally with the Ninth army, he had been moved to the First at the German break-through. The Madison infantryman arrived in the U. S.
