The photographer taking her picture had used a cup he had won playing golf and she had to return it to him.

Eventually she did land a series of small parts in "Winter Carnival," "Tall, Dark and Handsome," "The Loves of Edgar Allan Poe" and "Pride of the Yankees." Her two best-known performances probably were opposite Randolph Scott in "Western Union" in 1941 and with Walter Huston and Walter Brennan in Jean Renoir's "Swamp Water" the same year. She went to New York and in 1943 won the female lead in "Those Endearing Young Charms," and the next year starred in Moss Hart's play "Dear Ruth," returning to the stage full-time after a few more minor films. Miss Gilmore also taught drama at Yale University from 1966 to 1968. Jon Lormer include "I Want to Live," "Where the Boys Are," "A Fine Madness" and "The Sand Pebbles." He last appeared on television in a May, 1985, episode of "Highway to Heaven." Lormer leaves no immediate survivors. Silverman videotaped a segment over the weekend of Penn's karate instructor, David Wilson, using his arms to block overhead swings of the baton by the defense attorney.

The film clip was shown to Katsuy-ama and the jury Monday to illustrate how martial arts tactics can reduce injuries from severe blows by a night stick. The only other witness on Monday estimated that Penn drove a police vehicle at 15 to 18 m.p.h. when he ran over Jacobs as he left the Southeast San Diego driveway where the shootings took place. David Parker, a county traffic safety investigator, said it was unlikely that Penn could have fled the scene without driving over Jacobs, who was sprawled in the driveway with a gunshot wound to the neck. A. M. will assemble Wednesday, April 2, 1 pm at Mount Sinai Memorial Park to conduct services for our late brother, GEORGE NEMET IRV LEVINE, W.M. MARVIN WINCHELL, P.M., Sect. Virginia Gilmore, a proven stage actress who suffered through a series of banal Hollywood films before returning to the theater, died over the weekend at her Santa Barbara home.

She was 66 and had been suffering from emphysema. A veteran of about 30 films, she came to Los Angeles in 1939 after a brief but successful career on stage in San Francisco. Here she languished until she summoned up the courage to confront producer Samuel Goldwyn at his home. He promised her a screen test but the only immediate result was her being selected for the annual trophy sponsored by the "Physical Culture Foundation of Hollywood" for having the best legs in the film industry. In the few interviews she granted over the ensuing years, she liked to remember that there wasn't Jon Lormer, 80; Played Dozens of Roles on TV Jon Lormer, a character actor who appeared regularly on dozens of television series and occasionally on individual programs, has died.

The one-time actor and director at the American Theatre Wing in New York City was 80 when he died of cancer March 19 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. Lormer had appeared on stage in "Summer and Smoke," "The Big Knife," "Treasure Island" and "American Holiday" in New York and with touring companies before coming to Hollywood in 1958. In Hollywood, he became a regular on "Lassie," "The Real McCoys" and "Perry Mason." He also was seen live in the early days of TV on "Playhouse 90," "Studio One," "Ford Theatre" and the soap opera "Search for Tomorrow." More recently he did guest performances on "Lou Grant," "Little House on the Prairie," "Quincy," "Magnum P.I." and other shows. Lormer's motion picture credits be held Wednesday, 3 Cemetery Chapel, Monica Blvd.
