12 io 16 69.95 BY ANX FERNEDISG Daily Neus Staff Writer PRANCIS BACON once said, A "Antiquities are remnants of history which have casually escaped the shipwrecks of time." Mrs. Adam C. Trapp of Ridge-way rd. is sure of that since her trip to Aronoff Galleries, an antique shop in Cincinnati, just before New Year's Eve. Mrs.

Trapp (Lupe to her friends) wandered aimlessly around the shop while waiting for hor husband to purchase an original painting of a French village. A table loaded with odd pieces of china caught Lupe's eye, and she picked up one of the pieces with the casual air of a person not intending to buy. She nearly dropped the plate, for there, peeking out from a film of dust, was the Mexican Coat of Arms. Seeing that crest was to her like meeting an old friend from her native land of Mexico. Lupe then called her husband and coaxed him to buy the sot of 52 pieces.

Who would have thought that the dinner set from one of the most important personages in Mexican history, President Porfirio Diaz, chief executive of the Republic of Mexico, would, after long journey, finally come to Dayton as its final destination? But, it is more amazing that these antique dishes should have found their way into the home of a Mexican-born Daytonian whose uncle was a close 'riend of President Porfirio Diaz. The Trapps literally crept home from Cincinnati that night, for Lupe refused to have the china sent because of its fragile-ness. According to Mrs. Trapp, Aronoff antique shop purchased the pieces from a collector in New York who only buys antiques with an historical background. The Coat of Arms, shown to us through a magnifying glass, is made up of an eagle with Its broad wings opened to the rising sun and with a serpent in its talons. The Coat of ArmR was adopted in 1325 when an eagle of extraordinary size and beauty landed on tie southwestern borders of the principal lake in Mexico. In case you have forgotten, history tells us that Gen. Porfirio Diaz became chief executive of the Mexican Republic for the first term of four years in 1R77. After leading a revolution against Lerdo de Tejada, Diaz was reelected in 1884 and remained in power until 1911. It was then that an uprising forced him to flee to Paris where he died In exile.
